Alright, we need to talk about Ted Lasso Season 4 because…I have words.
To clarify before proceeding, let me emphasize that I am a passionate advocate for this series. In my opinion, it ranks among the finest offerings on Apple TV+ (although “Severance” has gained more popularity this year). This program has brought me countless memorable experiences and introduced me to wonderful individuals.
Since it’s officially confirmed that Season 4 of the show is indeed on its way, following rumors suggesting as much, I felt compelled to discuss this exciting news. Let’s dive right in!
As Someone Who Loves The First Three Seasons, I’m Here For A Fourth
As a devoted fan, let me express my anticipation for the forthcoming fourth season, but before diving into my expectations, allow me to share that for a considerable length of time, I’ve yearned for this series to surpass my existing adoration.
I’m really fond of the series “Ted Lasso.” This show has offered me a wealth of insights that have resonated with me deeply for extended periods. It also introduced me to performers whom I genuinely admire. The characters in “Ted Lasso” are ones that I can identify with, appreciate, and treasure.
Frankly, this show has managed to spark a newfound interest in me for soccer. I must confess that I had never been much of a fan before, being an ardent supporter of American football, having attended Penn State. Yet, the thrill of watching the Richmond soccer team compete, whether they win or lose, is unparalleled, even if these matches are only fictional. They’re inspired by real-life soccer experiences, which makes them all the more captivating.
One delightful piece of news from 2025 is discovering that a fourth season has been confirmed. However, there’s something significant regarding this forthcoming season that I feel compelled to discuss.

But I’m Not So Sure That Following A Woman’s Team Is The Correct Path, And Not For The Reasons You Think
According to information directly from Jason Sudeikis, as shared on the New Heights podcast, Lasso will now be coaching a women’s soccer team. However, I have some concerns about this, unlike what you might assume.
To tell you the truth, it doesn’t make a difference to me that this is a women’s soccer team. On the contrary, as a woman myself, I ought to be thrilled. In reality, I am genuinely enthusiastic about watching women play soccer, especially the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team. They are truly exceptional, and their matches offer some of the most captivating sports experiences I’ve had in the past five years or so.
My main issue, though, is that we don’t know these people.
In response to your point that “Oh, we didn’t know the team in the first season. What’s so wrong about meeting a whole new group of people?”, I would counter by acknowledging that indeed, we were not familiar with the main characters of Richmond in the first season of Ted Lasso. However, as the story unfolded, we came to understand and appreciate them, developing feelings of affection for them.
And now, in the middle of the series, we’re swapping out? For a whole new team?
I completely grasp the concept of cast reshuffles; being an entertainment journalist for almost five years, I’ve witnessed numerous casts join and depart like leaves in the wind. However, when it comes to a show like Ted Lasso, where the narrative encompasses not only the main character but also those who surround him, such alterations are troubling due to its interconnected nature.
Switching up the entire team during the series seems to undermine the joy we take in following the development and growth of our initial favorites over time. I’m unsure if we can expect a similar response in Season 4.

Ted Is Still In America At This Point, But Will He Come Back To England?
Moreover, the finale of Season 3 for the show “Ted Lasso” (previously thought to be the series end, but it seems that’s not the case now), wrapped up with Ted making a literal journey back to America, Roy stepping into the role as club manager, and an astonishingly swift series of changes unfolding.
So, will he coach a women’s team in America, or are we perhaps heading back to England again and moving on from those heartfelt farewells? I get the feeling that we might have to because Ted’s cultural struggles and interactions with Richmond fans were a significant part of what made the show so enjoyable.
If he returns, will we still have the same coaching expertise as before, given his current role with a women’s team? Alternatively, could Ted’s presentation to Rebecca serve as a blueprint for him starting anew in England and constructing a team from scratch? Frankly, I’m uncertain about how things will unfold or if they will meet our desired outcome.

Are We Ever Going To See The Other Players Again?
One concern I have regarding Season 4 of Ted Lasso and the roster shift is that it seems as though we may not be revisiting the original squad, the one which we grew deeply attached to.
Initially when news about Season 4 broke out, it was revealed that Phil Dunster, one of the primary characters, wouldn’t return. This seemed like a substantial absence, as we had grown fond of Jamie Tartt by the finale of Season 3. Unfortunately, learning that he won’t reappear in future episodes is disappointing.
Yet, this scenario leaves me pondering about the fate of the other characters, such as Sam, Colin, and others. Will they remain mere mentions in the backdrop or could we potentially witness their return to the storyline?

I’ll Still Watch The Fourth Season, But I’m A Little Wary
Even though I could voice my dissatisfactions until the cows return from pasture, it boils down to the fact that I’ll be tuning in for Season 4 in the end.
This girl, who openly wept during the Ted Lasso Christmas special, was so eager for more storylines a few years back that she would have gone to any length for it. As Jason Sudeikis is set to return in the series, which he is, it will remain the heartwarming and humorous show that is Ted Lasso.
A sense of sadness creeps in at the thought of possibly letting go of the team we’ve all bonded with. Maybe with passage of time, my affection will transition, and I might grow to admire the women’s team just as deeply, if not more so. Only the future can reveal this.
It seems like we could all benefit from revisiting the series, Ted Lasso, again. Let’s find some tranquility and keep reminding ourselves that “Life is like football!
