If you recognize Beast Boy from the Teen Titans team, it’s likely you’ve heard Greg Cipes bring the character to life, or at least associate his voice with the role. Cipes started voicing Beast Boy in the original Teen Titans animated series that debuted in 2003, and he still performs the role on the popular show Teen Titans Go!. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, the actor revealed that he has been diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease. Now, Cipes shares an update about his health with fans.
With April being Parkinson’s Awareness Month, Cipes took to Instagram and his other social media platforms to share with fans how much support he’s received since revealing his diagnosis, as well as to give a reminder to other people who have Parkinson’s or different health struggles. In his words:
This April marks Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and I feel compelled to express my gratitude towards Warner Bros. Studio – they’ve been an incredible source of support for me. The same goes for the cast; they’ve stood by my side throughout this journey. You, my dear readers, have also shown unwavering solidarity. Rest assured, I stand with you too, regardless of whether you’re battling Parkinson’s or another condition. Know that you are never, ever on your own in this fight.
Greg Cipes shared a message along with lyrics from the song “Fade Away,” a composition he penned for his band Cipes and the People back in 2007. Later, he sang a revised version of it as Beast Boy on Teen Titans Go!. Notably, his dog Wingman was featured in the accompanying video, which you can find below: (Source: original text provided)

In recent times, Cipes has faced multiple health crises, one of which was contracting COVID severely while working on the show “Young Justice” in 2023. Additionally, he revealed his struggle with Parkinson’s disease, skin cancer, heavy metal poisoning, and bone-related chronic diseases. While Parkinson’s is undeniably a significant health challenge, I wish him well on his healing journey. It’s heartening to see so many people rallying around him as he begins this new phase of his life.
Greg Cipes has lent his voice to three distinct incarnations of Beast Boy: the initial character from Teen Titans, a more humorous version from Teen Titans Go!, and a serious one who battled PTSD and drug addiction in the latter seasons of Young Justice. Interestingly, these last two characters encountered each other during Young Justice: Outsiders. Recently, Greg Cipes has also provided voices for shows such as Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DuckTales, The Mighty Ones, Cleopatra in Space, and Puppy Dog Pals.
I hope that Greg Cipes can successfully carry on voicing Beast Boy and take up other roles as he manages Parkinson’s disease. Also, with rumors of a Teen Titans feature in development for the DC Universe, perhaps the filmmakers can find a way to incorporate his voice in the upcoming DC movie when it becomes appropriate.
