Telegram Unveils In-App Browser for Decentralized TON Sites

As a seasoned researcher with a keen interest in the intersection of technology, communication, and finance, I find the latest developments at Telegram both fascinating and promising. Having closely followed their journey since its inception, I’ve always admired their innovative approach to messaging platforms and their relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries.

Telegram, the widely-used messaging app with a focus on cryptocurrency, recently unveiled an integrated web browser within its app. This browser is designed to access “TON Sites,” which are decentralized websites, and can be utilized on both mobile devices and computers.

The post announced that they plan to share Web3 technology with about a billion people who use Telegram every month.)

As an analyst, I’m excited to share that Pavel Durov, our CEO, has emphasized the impact of a recent update. This update brings Web3 functionalities straight to the fingertips of Telegram’s almost one billion monthly users. The new browser we’ve introduced facilitates effortless transitions between browsing web content and messaging, thereby merging communication with news consumption.

Alongside introducing TON Sites, Telegram has also launched its Mini App market, keeping a pledge made to users earlier. This new feature lets Telegram users engage with compact applications directly within the platform. Interestingly, over 500 million of Telegram’s total 950 million monthly active users utilize Mini Apps.

As a crypto enthusiast, I’ve found myself captivated by the surge of Mini Apps, particularly “Hamster Kombat.” This engaging crypto game allows me to earn tokens by simulating trades within a virtual crypto exchange. In just four short months since its debut, Hamster Kombat has exploded in popularity, amassing over 250 million players. This rapid growth places it among the fastest-growing apps on Telegram, demonstrating its appeal to users like myself.

As a crypto investor, I’ve recently come across an impressive Mini App called “Catizen.” This Web3 social entertainment platform has been captivating over 26 million players since its launch in March. What sets Catizen apart is its philanthropic approach – it’s generated a substantial $16 million from in-app purchases, a portion of which goes towards the rescue of stray cats. It’s refreshing to see a platform that not only provides entertainment but also contributes to a noble cause.

Both Hamster Kombat and Catizen function on Toncoin (TON), the indigenous digital currency of The Open Network (TON). In the last year, Toncoin has seen a significant increase of 467%, reaching $6.78, demonstrating increasing enthusiasm and use within the Telegram community.

A significant stride made on The Open Network is the introduction of the W5 smart wallet standard by the TON Core team and Tonkeeper. This joint venture seeks to ease gasless transactions, making it simpler for novice users to interact with TON’s blockchain network.

Telegram’s launch of decentralized websites and Mini Apps represents an important advancement, as it brings Web3 features into play and boosts user interaction on their platform.
