As a long-time fan of Warframe, I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming 1999 update. This August, I’ll be playing through the prologue quest, The Lotus Eaters, to prepare for this thrilling new chapter. The thought of returning to the world of Warframe in 1999 and battling through a Techrot-infested city on the brink of Y2K disaster is beyond intriguing.
As someone who has attended every TennoCon since its inception nine years ago, I can confidently say that this annual event continues to leave me in awe. The past weekend was no exception, filled with moments that left us all speechless and anticipating what’s to come. With Warframe: 1999 on the horizon, I am beyond excited for what promises to be one of the most stunning updates in this game’s rich history. Having been a part of this community since its early days, I can attest to the dedication and passion of both the developers and the players. The upcoming event is sure to deliver an experience that will further solidify Warframe as a must-play title for years to come.
As a passionate fan, I’m excited to share that in August 2024, we’ll be given a prologue quest, a warm-up to the main event, which is none other than The Lotus Eaters. This update brings back one of Warframe’s most beloved characters and sets the stage for the intriguing world of 1999. Additionally, Sevatgoth Prime and their unique weapons will make their debut in this update.
In the story “1999,” as you’d imagine, the action takes place in the year titled, on an alternate planet where Y2K is a lethal virus threatening mass destruction. The setting is the city of Höllvania, a 90s paradise contaminated by Techrot. You can swiftly navigate this city using the latest Atomicycles, which offer features like bullet jumps, drifts, and even serve as portable explosives. Our six protagonists, part of the Hex, ride atop these vehicles.
Each team member dons a Protoframe, a Warframe that highlights the human aspect within. Arthur acts as our captain, clad in Excalibur’s armor, accompanied by companions like Aoi, bearing Mag, and Quincy, outfitted with the latest addition, CYTE-09. The Protoframe will soon grace the Origin system, adorned with a stylish beret.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled about the addition of renowned actors like Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler to our team. Their characters really come alive in the game. To learn more about them, you can take a trip down memory lane and instant message them, just like we did in 1999. Who knows, if you play your cards right, you might even get to share a virtual kiss as we welcome the new year.
To fully capture the essence of the 1990s, you’ll encounter one of its most notorious relics: a boy band from that era named On-lyne. This quintet is fronted by Zeke, voiced by Leon Kennedy, and Nick Apostolides. Unfortunately for you, they’ve fallen victim to the Technocyte Coda’s deceit and transformed into infectious enemies. Despite this, their music remains irresistibly catchy, allowing you to enjoy their popular hit single, “Party of Your Lifetime,” on all major streaming platforms.
For me, one of the most exciting aspects of this update is the improvements to the fashion systems, essentially the ultimate goal. You’ll have the ability to go into battle with two different loadouts for your fashion frames, which you can easily switch between. However, the real standout feature is the new Gemini Skins. With these, you can bring characters like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin system and enhance their appearances.
In simpler terms, only frames with specific skins such as Excalibur offer fully-voiced lines during battles. These characters will engage in conversation if you bring out your operator. It’s an enjoyable feature that lets us make the most of the talented voice actors and gives characters a face.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share some additional exciting details with you! Beyond the captivating headline, Digital Extremes has announced a collaboration with animation studio THE LINE to create an enthralling anime short inspired by 1999 – set for release this year. Moreover, starting today, we can obtain the visually stunning Heirloom skin for Ember, and in early 2025, we’ll be able to get our hands on a magnificent Rhino skin!
