As a gamer with a deep love for nostalgia-driven content, I must say that the return of That ’90s Show has been a delightful surprise. Having grown up watching That ’70s Show, the prospect of revisiting Point Place and its quirky inhabitants in the 90s is nothing short of exhilarating.
Following his triumph as a model, Ashton Kutcher swiftly established himself in acting by landing the role of Michael Kelso in That ‘70s Show, marking his debut. Portraying the endearing dimwit for most of the Fox sitcom’s eight-season run laid the foundation for Kutcher’s film career and global recognition. Interestingly, when it comes to That ‘90s Show, Netflix, a leading streaming platform, has opted to cast an already well-known actor to play Betsy Kelso, Michael’s daughter from the original series, when the sequel show makes its return to the 2024 TV schedule later this month.
Viewers familiar with “That ’70s Show”, either from its original airing or through a Peacock subscription, will recall that Betsy was born during Season 7 as the result of Michael Kelso’s short-lived relationship with Brooke Rockwell, portrayed by Shannon Elizabeth. She was the valedictorian of Point Place High School two years senior to him. In the second half of “That ’90s Show” Season 2, Betsy will be seen as a young woman, with Kira Kosarin taking on the role. Kosarin is best recognized for her portrayal of Phoebe Thunderman in the Nickelodeon series “The Thundermans”, which aired from 2013 to 2018. A follow-up movie titled “The Thundermans Returns” was released on Paramount+ in March.
In the scene depicted earlier, Betsy is set to cross paths with Nate, a close friend of her half-brother Jay, at a rustic tavern. However, an unexpected turn of events occurs as the trailer for That ‘90s Show Part 3 hints that Nate initially fails to recognize Betsy. Things become complicated when he starts dancing with Jay’s sister and seems to develop romantic feelings for her, creating tension between the two friends, given the old adage of brothers before sisters.
In the third part of “That ’90s Show,” actress Kira Kosarin is set to reprise her role as Betsy, ensuring fans with a Netflix subscription that she won’t just make a brief one-episode appearance and then disappear. However, it seems that Betsy won’t get to spend time with her father, as Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are unlikely to rejoin the show after their initial appearances in the first episode. Regrettably, Kunis, who portrayed Jackie Burkhart in “That ’70s Show,” and Michael were revealed to be Jay’s parents.
In the second half of Season 2 of That ‘90s Show, it appears that Laura Prepon’s character, Donna Pinciotti (Leia’s mother), will have a larger role, hinting at a possible return to Point Place. If this happens, Leia would get to spend time with her friends year-round instead of just during the summer. Additionally, we can expect Jim Rash as Fenton, Seth Green as Mitch, Kevin Smith’s Sonny (Leo’s son), and Jason Mewes’ Bunch to return in Part 3. At the end of Part 2, Sonny and Bunch crashed into Red and Kitty’s kitchen, but instead of being asked to leave, they will stay in Point Place and share scenes with Ozzie, who is apparently also known as Fozzie. Does he resemble a Muppet bear?
In simpler terms, The third part of the show “That ’90s Show” will air on Thursday, August 22nd. While you wait for more episodes, don’t forget to check out some other great shows available on Netflix!
