It’s clear that Alan Ritchson, the star of Prime Video’s Reacher, isn’t someone you’d want to cross paths with if you’re Matt Gaetz. Despite Ritchson appearing gentle and teddy-bear-like most of the time, he’s not shy about speaking his mind and has no tolerance for bullies. This is particularly true when it comes to Matt Gaetz, a former classmate of Ritchson’s from their childhood days. In fact, Ritchson openly expresses that he doesn’t view Gaetz as a good person at all.

In a conversation with GQ, Ritchson openly discussed his views on the politician, both having been former classmates. Without mincing words, Ritchson expressed his honest feelings regarding him.

That individual poses as an opponent. It astounds me that the panhandle region of Florida persists in voting for someone, despite all we know about him and the confidential deals he has struck regarding pardons for specific offenders. Frankly, he doesn’t appear to be a trustworthy person.

Ritchson hails from Florida and went to school with Gaetz in Niceville. Apart from this shared past, they seem to have few similarities, as the actor emphasized Gaetz’s numerous public flaws. The actor’s remarks about “granting leniency to certain lawbreakers” may be a dig at Gaetz’s suggestion for President Trump to pardon Michael Flynn on Fox News in 2020. There were also allegations that Gaetz secretly pledged a pardon to Roger Stone. Gaetz initially served as a representative in Florida’s state legislature from 2010-2016, then moved on to represent Florida’s 1st district in the U.S. House of Representatives and was re-elected an impressive four times. However, Gaetz has faced numerous scandals throughout his political career.

Alan Ritchson Has More Than A Few Reasons To Not Be Pleased With Matt Gaetz

In November, President-elect Trump chose Representative Gaetz to serve as U.S. Attorney General, causing the congressman to step down. However, following Trump’s announcement of his decision, an Ethics Committee report on Gaetz emerged, stating that there was sufficient proof he had broken House rules and ethical standards by engaging in activities like prostitution, statutory rape, drug use, accepting improper gifts, and obstructing Congress. Despite denying the accusations, Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration for the position a week later.

To put it simply, Ritchson found Gaetz and his political actions unsatisfactory, which sparked the actor’s interest in politics. As he stated, “A part of me yearns to enter politics to surpass someone like him for the greater good, but another part of me doubts my ability to be successful in politics as I’m not cunning enough. Some people manage to stay true to themselves, yet they lack effectiveness. I admire Bernie Sanders, but I wonder what real impact he’s had?
