After the awards show, Conan O’Brien shared with Entertainment Tonight that he had originally approached Adam Sandler, a fellow Saturday Night Live alum, for a different role in the Academy Awards. During the broadcast on Sunday, Sandler appeared wearing his characteristic baggy outfit consisting of a hoodie and gym shorts, pretending to storm out of the Dolby Theatre when Conan called him out on it.

During the Oscars event, Conan O’Brien jokingly commented that Sandler looked as if he was a player in a late-night video game room. This remark prompted the actor, who will soon appear in Netflix’s “Happy Gilmore 2,” to respond by saying, “Conan, I appreciate how I look because I am a good person.
In a critique for the 2025 Oscars, Daniel Fienberg from The Hollywood Reporter commented that O’Brien was an effective host, and certain parts of the show’s script were wittily crafted.
