In the 1970s, about four decades prior to Keanu Reeves’ character, Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), embarking on his vengeful journey as the world-weary hitman we all know, this limited prequel delves into how Winston came to rule over a hotel infamous for its lethally exclusive clientele. When my older brother, Frankie (Ben Robson), absconded with a valuable High Table artifact – a coin press – I found myself squarely in the crosshairs of a lethal power struggle with the man who had previously controlled the hotel: the ruthless Cormac O’Connor (Mel Gibson). Leveraging its disco-era setting, The Continental: From the John Wick Universe serves as an entertaining and groovy addition to the beloved franchise.

Twisted Metal
Are you prepared for a thrilling journey? Quantum Leap
In a modern twist, Dr. Ben Song (Raymond Lee) is stepping into the role originally played by Scott Bakula’s Sam Beckett from the ’90s Quantum Leap series. This updated sci-fi show is being led by Donald P. Bellisario, the creator of the original Quantum Leap, who is joined by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt as executive producers. With Ben leaping through various historical periods and bodies, he addresses contemporary issues, much like in the original series. As a fan, I’m thrilled to share that Natasha Lyonne takes the lead in Peacock’s “Poker Face,” portraying Charlie Cale, a seemingly ordinary woman with an exceptional knack for detecting lies. This talent proves invaluable as she navigates her way through various parts of the country, cracking Columbo-esque murder mysteries while avoiding the ruthless Vegas gangsters who are hot on her heels and intent on silencing her permanently.

The story unfolds across China’s Cultural Revolution era in the mid-20th Century and progresses through today, encompassing elements such as a covert government operation, a floating colony armed with its own military, and a virtual reality game harboring an unexpected objective. To put it mildly, “Three-Body” is intricate, and the narrative strives to capture that complexity accurately.

Farscape
Farscape, which first aired over two decades ago, continues to have a loyal fanbase. The series revolves around human astronaut John Crichton (played by Ben Browder), who ends up stranded on an alien world after passing through a wormhole unintentionally. In simple terms, “The Greatest American Hero” is a spot-on blend of sci-fi humor from the 1980s. The plot revolves around Ralph Hinkley (played by William Katt), an ordinary substitute teacher who encounters some extraterrestrials. These aliens give him a suit that grants superpowers, but the suit itself is packed with abilities that Hinkley struggles to master, leading to a lot of amusing situations.

Brave New World
The TV series, titled the same as Aldous Huxley’s 1932 classic science fiction novel, has been brought to life for modern audiences on Peacock in 2020. While some elements have been updated (such as introducing an artificial intelligence element), the core theme remains consistent: In this future world, people are said to be living in a supposed utopia, but in reality, every aspect of their lives is strictly regulated by the government.

Despite this new aquatic society, intergovernmental disputes persist beneath the waves, and the crew of seaQuest finds themselves entangled in these conflicts from the very beginning.
