As a passionate admirer of filmmaking, I’ve got to share some intriguing news: The talented Ali Abbasi, fresh from directing the Oscar-nominated masterpiece “The Apprentice,” is no longer associated with CAA, according to reliable sources at The Hollywood Reporter.
A recent report by Deadline claims that there was an alleged groping incident involving Abbasi at the CAA’s Golden Globes party last month. However, the agency has chosen not to comment on this matter. It is also worth noting that he is no longer represented by Entertainment 360, but continues to be a client of Lark Management in the U.K., who have yet to respond to a request for comment.
In a statement made to Deadline, Abbasi announced a change in his professional journey by stating that he is no longer associated with CAA and Entertainment 360.
Director Abbasi led the movie titled “The Apprentice,” which was distributed cinematically by Briarcliff Entertainment in October, following a high-profile debut at the Cannes Film Festival last year. Sebastian Stan received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of a young Donald Trump, while Jeremy Strong is nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Roy Cohn. The film also garnered nominations for both Stan and Strong in this year’s Golden Globes awards.
This weekend, a filmmaker of Iranian origin is in the running for the Best Director Independent Spirit Award. Additionally, the movie titled “The Apprentice” has been recognized with nominations for Stan’s exceptional acting performance in the leading role, as well as for outstanding editing at this year’s ceremony honoring independent filmmaking.
Abbasi’s previous films encompass “Holy Spider,” a movie released in 2022, which was Denmark’s choice for the Best International Feature Film Oscar, although it did not receive a nomination, and “Border,” a film from 2018 that was honored with the Un Certain Regard award at Cannes during that year.
