Previously titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” the upcoming fifth Avengers movie was rumored to revolve around Kang the Conqueror’s ambition to rule the multiverse. However, after the title change to “Avengers: Doomsday” and confirmation of Doctor Victor von Doom (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.) as the main antagonist, one might speculate about the movie’s possible plot development.
As a die-hard Marvel fan, let me share with you my excitement about “Ultimate Comics: Doomsday,” an engaging narrative arc that I’ve had the pleasure to delve into! This thrilling 12-issue journey from 2010 to 2011 was masterfully crafted by Brian Michael Bendis and Rafa Sandoval. The story is divided into three captivating parts: “Ultimate Enemy,” “Ultimate Mystery,” and “Ultimate Doom.”
Following the crossover event “Ultimatum,” where Magneto seeks revenge for his children’s deaths by trying to exterminate everyone in the Ultimate Universe, we move on to “Doomsday.” In this storyline, many heroes from the Ultimate Universe have been killed, and the Fantastic Four have disbanded. A string of enigmatic assaults on various characters and facilities eventually uncovers the mastermind behind these attacks: a deranged Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, who earns the moniker “The Maker.”
Could Marvel Studios actually adapt Ultimate Comics: Doomsday?
Marvel Studios frequently adapts titles, plotlines, and characters from Marvel Comics, modifying them to suit the needs of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For instance, films such as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Avengers: Infinity War” drew their fundamental ideas and several narrative elements from iconic comic book stories, but were tailored for the big screen accordingly.
It seems challenging to remain true to the original storyline of “Ultimate Comics: Doomsday” given its adaptation, considering Robert Downey Jr.’s commitment to reprise his role as Doctor Doom within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With this in mind, it appears nearly certain that Doctor Doom will serve as the main antagonist for both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
It’s quite possible that Marvel Studios has recognized that the title “Doomsday” suits a film focusing on Doctor Doom perfectly, and they are considering a largely fresh narrative for it. However, there’s an additional factor to ponder: “Doomsday” could serve as a precursor to “Secret Wars.” If they opt for the 2015 version of this storyline, Mr. Fantastic might indeed engage in combat with his evil counterpart from the Ultimate Universe, the Maker, in an epic multiversal conflict masterminded by none other than Doctor Doom.
