As a seasoned moviegoer who has weathered countless delays and disappointments in the realm of superhero cinema, I must say, the latest news regarding “The Batman: Part II” and “The Brave and the Bold” have left me both bewildered and amused. The former’s move to 2027 feels like an eternity for a sequel that was initially slated for a 2026 release, while the latter seems to be shrouded in mystery, with a potential debut date of 2030.
As a dedicated fan of DC Comics and all things Batman, I couldn’t be more thrilled! Two distinct, standalone Batman films are on the horizon, each offering a unique take on the Caped Crusader. First up is “The Batman: Part II”, where we rejoin Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, a character I met in March 2022. On the other side, there’s “The Brave and the Bold”, which will introduce a new Batman within the DC Universe. However, it seems that both these highly anticipated DC films have encountered some setbacks. Regrettably, “Part II” has been hit with another significant delay.
The Batman: Part II Won’t Come Out Until Late 2027
Originally scheduled for October 2, 2026, the release of “The Batman: Part II” was announced to be delayed until October 1, 2027. This change is part of a series of rescheduling by Warner Bros. Pictures today. The sequel’s previous slot has been taken over by an unnamed Tom Cruise film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Meanwhile, “Mickey 17” featuring Robert Pattinson has been moved to March 7, 2025, and the Ryan Coogler-directed “Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan, has shifted from its original March date to April 18, 2025.
According to Deadline’s report, “The Batman: Part II” is unlikely to start filming until late summer 2025. Due to the extensive visual effects required for the sequel, a 2026 release has become impractical. This means that about five and a half years will elapse between the premiere of “The Batman” and “Part II,” which is significantly longer than the four-year gap between “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” However, if the final product turns out to be exceptional and surpasses the quality of “The Batman,” it’s hoped that the extended wait will prove worthwhile.
The Brave And The Bold Is An Even Longer Ways Off
In early 2023, The Brave and the Bold was introduced as part of the initial lineup for the DC Universe. This Batman film was planned to explore Bruce Wayne partnering with his son Damian, who would be Robin in this shared continuity. Last month, James Gunn, one of the co-heads at DC Studios along with Peter Safran, mentioned that The Brave and the Bold might take some time before production begins. More recently, Andy Muschietti, confirmed as the director for the feature back in June 2023, has stated that the project is still a ways off. During his appearance on the California Secreta podcast (translated by Everything_DCU), this was the update he provided.
The Batman project has been postponed a little bit, so I might do another film before that.
It’s worth noting that the new release date for “The Batman: Part II” doesn’t necessarily affect “The Brave and the Bold” immediately. However, as our Sean O’Connell expressed concern about in March when the delay to 2026 was announced, the postponement of the sequel might be a sign of trouble for the DC Universe project. Given that “Part II” is now scheduled for late 2027, and if we assume that DC Studios wants a few years between it and “The Brave and the Bold”, this implies that the latter might not arrive until at least 2030.
As a die-hard DC Universe fan, I’m delighted to share some exciting news: we might not have such a long wait to encounter the DCU’s Batman! Just last week, it emerged that Mike Flanagan is penning a Clayface movie, scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. Given that Clayface is one of Batman’s iconic adversaries, there’s a chance he could make an appearance in this film, possibly as a supporting character or even in a brief cameo. Here’s to hoping we get a glimpse of the Dark Knight soon!
Absolutely, regardless of how you look at it, it’s going to take some time before Batman appears on the big screen again. Luckily, if you’re a Max subscriber, there’s no shortage of films and series featuring Gotham City’s Dark Knight that you can stream in the meantime, as we await updates about The Batman: Part II and The Brave and the Bold.
