The Boys Showrunner Addresses Jensen Ackles' Return as Soldier Boy in Season 5

As a die-hard fan of The Boys, I can’t help but be thrilled by the latest developments in this gripping series. The season 4 finale left us with a major cliffhanger: Homelander, the ruthless and unpredictable supervillain, has taken control of the government and captured Soldier Boy, our fan-favorite antihero. In an exclusive behind-the-scenes interview, showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that we’ll be seeing more of Jensen Ackles in season 5, which is music to my ears.

Warning: Spoilers to follow for The Boys season 4 finale…

In the finale of “The Boys” season 4, the Boys were left reeling as most of its members either went into hiding or were captured by unidentified forces. This power vacuum allowed Homelander to take charge uncontested, following a clandestine coup. To add fuel to the fire, during the end credits, it was disclosed that Soldier Boy is now in Homelander’s custody. Showrunner Eric Kripke has recently shared insights into this twist in a behind-the-scenes interview, assuring fans that they will be treated to more of Jensen Ackles in the upcoming fifth and last season.

“Fans adore Soldier Boy, according to Kripke. Consequently, when H.L. gained power over the government, it was only natural for him to discover that his father was being kept in cold storage. This won’t be the last time we encounter him.”

With the announcement that season 5 will be the final installment for “The Boys” series, it was only a matter of time before Soldier Boy made his return. This news is certainly exciting for fans as they gear up for an epic finale. Soldier Boy last left us in handcuffs after clashing with The Boys. We now know that Homelander is Soldier Boy’s son, but the elder hero sees him as a disappointment and even attempted to eliminate him. So, when season 5 arrives, will we witness a truce between foes?

What Will Soldier Boy’s Role Be In The Boys Season 5?

During “The Boys” season 5, Soldier Boy’s unique power to strip other supers of their abilities becomes crucial in dealing with Homelander, who now holds governmental control and has the Boys labeled as fugitives. With the series’ end goal established, every helping hand will be necessary. However, Soldier Boy’s return may create more complications instead of resolving them.

Although Soldier Boy appears to be an ideal companion for The Boys, his actions have shown he is without moral compass and solely looks out for himself. Their most recent encounter did not yield favorable results; The Boys were forced to betray Soldier Boy to protect Ryan, his grandson. As for Homelander, he may yearn for a heartwarming father-son reunion, but their previous meeting was marked by Soldier Boy labeling Homelander as a failure and attempting to eliminate him.

For “Supernatural” supporters, it’s sad news that Ackles and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who used to play father and son on the show, may not collaborate again. This is because Morgan’s character was disclosed to be a hallucination of Billy Butcher. It’s uncertain if Ackles will have a significant part in season 5. The actor seems excited about this new venture, but he’s currently the main lead on another Prime series, “Countdown,” and is set to reappear as a guest star in season 2 of “Tracker.”
