As a passionate supporter of Valorie Curry and her exceptional portrayal of Firecracker in The Boys, I wholeheartedly applaud her courage to speak out against the unacceptable behavior she faced at Comic Con Northern Ireland. It’s disheartening to see some fans taking their love for the show too far, blurring the lines between fiction and reality.
There are always some fans who take things too far. Valorie Curry, who plays Firecracker in Season 4 of The Boys, has appealed to fans, asking them to behave appropriately after an uncomfortable experience at Comic Con Northern Ireland. Curry joined the cast of The Boys for its fourth season, playing the alt-right, conspiracy-theory-spouting “Patriot” Firecracker, who becomes a member of The Seven. Desperate to prove herself to Homelander (Antony Starr), Firecracker adheres to a strict diet and supplement routine, in order to appeal to Homelander’s creepy obsession with milk.
After experiencing such an incredible event, I felt compelled to address some unacceptable fan behavior during the convention on my Instagram story. Now, I didn’t go into specifics about what transpired, but fellow fans of “The Boys” can probably guess. I want to express that overall, everyone has been exceptionally kind, respectful, and lovely at these conventions – it’s truly been a delight. However, we must discuss boundaries and appropriate behavior.
“I know people saw a character that I play do some pretty extreme things on The Boys. I don’t care if you’re in costume, I don’t care if you are in character. It’s not okay and it’s not funny to demand those things from me in person at my booth. It’s not okay. Frankly, to the person who did that repeatedly today, I made it pretty clear that it wasn’t OK and that only seemed to make this person and their friend angry. I didn’t think this needed to be explained but I was deeply uncomfortable – it was quite clear I was uncomfortable.”
“Honestly, you should know better. Everybody else knows better. I don’t know what reaction you were looking for,” Curry added. The actress said that she enjoys fan interactions following the show’s release, especially at conventions. However, she said she’s “not going to be able to do this if people are acting this way because it makes me so uncomfortable.”
Comic Con Northern Ireland Responds to Inappropriate Fans
After the occurrence, the organizers of Comic Con Northern Island, known as Monopoly Events, issued a statement (via BBC) expressing disapproval towards the fans for their unacceptable actions. Furthermore, it was confirmed that Monopoly Events had contacted Curry following the incident. The statement conveyed:
As a fellow movie enthusiast, let me share some thoughts: When we’re here, we’re all just ourselves – not our favorite characters from the silver screen. It’s crucial to remember that everyone deserves respect, whether they’re guests or part of our group. So, let’s make sure our conversations are always appropriate and considerate, even if cosplaying is involved. No one should feel uncomfortable due to our amusement or jest. Let’s make this a friendly and enjoyable experience for all!
Actress Antoinette Curry is all set to rejoin the cast for the last and climactic season of The Boys. At this moment, we don’t have any specifics regarding the storyline, and Curry has kept mum on her character’s involvement in Season 5. However, she expressed a desire that her character, Firecracker, meets a grisly and violent end during the show’s final chapter.
