As a lifelong fan of Dr. Seuss, I must say that the upcoming animated adaptation of “The Cat in the Hat” has me absolutely thrilled! Growing up, this whimsical character was a staple in my childhood, and I can’t wait to see him brought to life on the big screen. The cast they’ve assembled is nothing short of impressive, with Paula Pell joining an already star-studded lineup.

Prepare for a trip down memory lane as “The Cat in the Hat” is set to grace our screens once more with a new movie adaptation! Although it’s not slated for a 2025 cinema debut yet, we do have some exciting details regarding this forthcoming production.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the timeless tale of “The Cat in the Hat,” a story that has been etched into our hearts since childhood or as a cherished reader to younger generations. This iconic children’s book, penned by the one and only Dr. Seuss, has stood the test of time, with numerous adaptations gracing our television screens and the big screen in the 2003 live-action film featuring Mike Myers. Now, it’s about to receive the animated movie makeover it truly deserves!

What’s the planned release date for “The Cat in the Hat,” and who are the cast members? Here’s what we currently know about it.

What Is The Cat In The Hat Release Date?

As reported by Deadline, “The Cat in the Hat” is scheduled to hit theaters on March 6, 2026. That’s right! Unfortunately, we won’t see this movie until next year, so it’s not making an appearance on the 2024 film calendar. Originally planned for a 2025 release, the premiere has been delayed and moved back to 2026 instead.

As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that initially, I was a bit disappointed to learn about the delay of some exciting films scheduled for March 2025, such as the live-action Snow White and the untitled Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan vampire project. But upon reflection, I’ve come to see this as an opportunity rather than a setback. Giving these movies more time before their release will allow them to truly captivate audiences when they finally hit the big screen. The anticipation will only grow stronger, making the experience all the more rewarding!

The Cat In The Hat Cast

Excitedly preparing myself, I can’t help but feel my anticipation rise as I learn about the exceptional voice actors lined up for this upcoming film, according to the latest Deadline report.

Bill Hader as the Cat in the Hat

Bill Hader will be the voice behind the main character in the movie adaptation of “The Cat in the Hat“. While gaining prominence as a performer and writer on “Saturday Night Live“, Hader has since expanded his career into notable film and television roles.

He was the star of the Barry cast, which earned him several Primetime Emmy awards and nominations. He also starred in films like Trainwreck, If, Noelle,  IT Chapter Two, Toy Story 4, and more.

Quinta Brunson

Quinta Brunson was additionally cast in ‘The Cat in the Hat’. Beyond her role as the lead in ‘Abbott Elementary’, Brunson has made appearances in multiple shows such as ‘Single Parents’, ‘iZombie’, and others. She was a key player in ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ and had a recurring role in ‘Miracle Workers’, a series that often goes unnoticed.

Bowen Yang

Actor Bowen Yang has been selected to lend his voice for a character in the upcoming production of “The Cat in the Hat”. Known for his humorous performances on “Saturday Night Live”, which I must admit is quite entertaining, he’s also made appearances in films such as “Fire Island” and “Bros”, and TV series like “Girls5Eva” and “The Other Two”.

Xochitl Gomez

Xochitl Gomez has been cast in “The Cat in the Hat”. This actress, who gained prominence last year with her role as America Chavez in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, has also been seen on shows like “Raven’s Home” and “The Baby-Sitters Club”. Interestingly enough, she was the winner of the thirty-second season of “Dancing with the Stars”.

Matt Berry

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that Matt Berry, not only an acclaimed actor but also a hilarious comedian, is lending his voice for The Cat in the Hat. You might recognize him from his stints on shows like The IT Crowd, What We Do in the Shadows, Toast of London and other comedy series. He’s also graced the silver screen with his presence in films such as Christopher Robin, The Inventor, Snow White, and The Huntsman.

Paula Pell

Currently, Paula Pell is the most recent addition to the cast of “The Cat in the Hat,” taking on a voice role. Known for her work as a writer on “Saturday Night Live” and numerous television shows such as “30 Rock,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Funny or Die Presents,” “The Mindy Project,” “Big Mouth,” “Love,” and others, she brings a wealth of experience to the production.

Talk about a stacked cast – and now it just makes me more excited for the film.

What Is The Cat In The Hat About?

The Cat In The Hat Movie: What We Know About The New Dr. Seuss Adaptation

Essentially, “The Cat in the Hat” is the title being adapted for the movie, based on the renowned character from Dr. Seuss’ book of the same name, first published in 1957. Deadline has provided a glimpse into the plot – it will center around The Cat’s latest predicament: assisting two siblings and lifting their spirits as they settle into a new town.

As a gamer reminiscing about an old tale, let me take you on a journey back to a time when I stumbled upon a story about a feline friend. This furry hero mysteriously appeared at a house shared by two siblings – Sally and her unnamed brother. He showcased his bag of tricks that left us kids in awe. Then, chaos ensued as duo characters, Thing 1 and Thing 2, wreaked havoc all around the home. In the end, our whiskered companion returned with an amazing machine to tidy up the mess they’d made. Quite the adventure, wasn’t it?

The story is pretty basic, so I’m not surprised that the animated film will be a bit different from the book, but I’m down for anything.

The Movie Will Be Animated

It was previously mentioned that “The Cat in the Hat” will be made into an animated movie. Interestingly enough, this is the first time this specific book is being animated as a full-length feature film, making me eager to see how it turns out. Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is taking charge of the project, having previously worked on successful animations like “The Lego Movie” and “DC League of Super-Pets”. Therefore, I’m optimistic about this adaptation.

Alessandro Carloni And Erica Rivinoja Directed And Wrote The Film

According to the Deadline article we’ve read, the final piece of information is that Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja will jointly direct ‘The Cat in the Hat’. It’s worth mentioning that Carloni has previously worked on a number of DreamWorks Animation films, including the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ series, ‘The Croods’, and the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ movies.

In various films such as “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” “Girls Trip,” “The Addams Family,” “Clouds with a Chance of Meatballs 2” (and others), Rivinoja has been involved. Moreover, she’s no stranger to television, having worked on shows like “South Park” and “Clone High.” Given her past work, I have a strong hunch that this movie will be a comedic delight.

One way to rephrase the sentence could be: “I’m looking forward to donning my Thing 1 shirt for the play, and making sure my partner wears Thing 2 as well, when it comes to ‘The Cat in the Hat’.”
