The Conners’ Emma Kenney Reveals What Fans Can Expect From Final Six Episodes, And I’m Rather Surprised By One Detail

Among the most iconic families portrayed in classic TV sitcom history, the Conner family is preparing to bid farewell (perhaps permanently) when their abbreviated seventh and concluding season premieres on ABC in March. While details about this final event are still vague, showrunner and executive producers have expressed excitement for the occasion. Fortunately, lead actress Emma Kenney has offered some insights into the series’ ending, and I must admit, her choice of words left me somewhat astonished.

During a conversation with TVLine regarding her upcoming roles throughout the early 2025 television season (we previously mentioned her upcoming guest appearance on Reba McEntire’s NBC sitcom, “Happy’s Place”), Kenney was asked about the significance of these upcoming episodes. In response, she maintained a mysterious air with her initial comment, saying that she would not reveal too much about it being an “event.

Previously, we produced between 13 and 22 episodes per season, making it quite challenging to conclude all storylines in just six episodes, which add up to approximately three hours of content. This compact structure inevitably leaves some questions unanswered at the conclusion.

I find myself puzzled and curious as the actress hints that The Conners series finale may leave some narrative threads unresolved. While it’s not surprising for a showrunner like Bruce Helford to leave certain plot points undeveloped, I can’t help but wonder which questions will be left unanswered, perhaps even on the kitchen table.

Could it be that these questions are intentionally unanswered, allowing room for this story to expand and potentially spawn another spin-off in the future? The show “The Conners” was initially created to cash in on the immense popularity of “Roseanne” following its lead actress’s dismissal, but it wasn’t originally planned for a seven-season run. However, by the end of the series, the writers might have devised a strategy to keep the possibility open for viewers to return to the Lanford family after an extended absence, possibly focusing on Harris or Mark’s offspring.

Emma Kenney opened up further about the final season of The Conners and her journey during its production, expressing:

It’s undeniably going to be an emotional experience. Many folks grew up with that show and its characters, including those I worked with. A good number of our team were part of the original crew, and last week was particularly emotional for us all. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been a part of it and create such cherished memories with these people.

In recent months, Harris Conner’s character has been making news for an unexpected reason. Previously unannounced, Whitney Cummings, the former producer of “Roseanne”, disclosed that Sabrina Carpenter, a renowned pop star and alumna of Disney, had auditioned to play Darlene’s daughter. However, she was not cast as it wasn’t a suitable match. It would be quite intriguing if she made an appearance in the final season!

It’s yet undecided if Emma Kenney’s role in Happy’s Place will extend beyond the single episode she has already shot. Whether the series gets renewed for a second season is something that depends on the network and producers right now, and it appears quite likely at this point.

In March, the last season of The Conners will make its debut on ABC. If you’d like to catch up on earlier seasons, consider subscribing to Netflix for streaming access.
