After much anticipation, it’s been confirmed when “The Conners” will make its grand return for its final season. Originally known as the spin-off of “Roseanne”, this series is set to conclude after seven seasons, with a six-episode run slated to air on ABC starting March 26th. Last year, it was announced that season seven would mark the end of the show. Beginning April 1st, “The Conners” will replace “Shifting Gears”, currently occupying ABC’s Wednesday 8:00 PM time slot, led by Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. In a statement to TheWrap, ABC shared:
Over three decades, viewers have joined the Conners in their journey through everyday life in Lanford. Characters like Dan, Jackie, Darlene, and Becky deal with challenges such as parenting, marriage, money troubles, and aging within the working-class community of America. Despite arguments, frugality, used items, and emotional breakdowns, they manage to push forward with affection, wit, and resilience, ultimately overcoming their struggles.
The television series titled “The Conners” debuted in 2018 following the abrupt termination of the revival of “Roseanne” due to controversial tweets from Roseanne Barr concerning a member of then-President Barack Obama’s team, Valerie Jarrett. ABC decided to sever ties with Barr, but the main cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Garson, Michael Fishman, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, and Jayden Ray moved on to “The Conners.” Barr’s character was written off, and the show began by depicting the family struggling with the loss of their matriarch.
The Conners television series is set to conclude after airing 112 episodes, marking a notable achievement in the realm of network sitcoms. It has been successful on ABC, consistently attracting large audiences (though ratings have dropped slightly in recent seasons) and earning praise from critics.
The Conners Say Goodbye
ABC has unveiled a sneak peek for their six-episode swan song, and here’s a heads up: if you’ve been following the Conner family since Roseanne debuted in 1988, it might stir some nostalgic feelings. The video, accessible through Deadline, concludes with the iconic home dimming its lights. In a chat with TV Insider, Kenney (the actor portraying Harris Conner-Healy) talked about the show’s brief final season. Kenney also hinted that The Conners “essentially wraps up with some unresolved issues.
For our final season, we’ve narrowed it down to only six episodes. Typically, we have more flexibility and occasionally include standalone episodes. However, in this case, every single episode carries a significant purpose, and each character gets their well-deserved spotlight.
“I think it would’ve been too sad if they made it very a clear ending,” she said.
Although they might’ve selected this path to prevent excessive sadness, it keeps the possibility alive for characters from the Conner family to make a comeback on our TV screens in the future.
The last season of The Conners airs concurrently with Goodman’s final season on HBO’s series, The Righteous Gemstones, both debuting in March. Metcalfe will enter the Ryan Murphy universe by appearing in Monster’s upcoming installment. After her termination from the Roseanne revival, Barr has moved on to the stand-up special Cancel This! She has been an advocate for President Donald Trump, most recently featuring in Tom MacDonald’s video Daddy’s Home, which supports Trump’s reelection campaign. Barr is preparing to make a comeback on television with a new, eccentric series that she co-authored. The Conners’ farewell episode will premiere on March 26th. Executive producers for the show include Tom Werner, Gilbert, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen, and Tony Hernandez.
