A disrupted radio signal rarely spells good news in the horror genre. It’s particularly unsettling when a powerful ’80s track like Stan Bush’s “It Don’t Get Better Than This” suddenly bursts through a wall of static, especially when it’s playing from a radio inside a crematorium. This is the chilling scene that unfolds in the first five minutes (see below) of SYFY’s latest series, Revival, which is based on the Image Comics series by the same name, written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Mike Norton.
The narrative unfolds within the mentioned crematorium, where Randy (Graeme Barrett), sporting a ponytail and working the night shift, prepares to incinerate a deceased individual. Simultaneously, local journalist May Tao (Katharine King So) is on hand, eager to chronicle peculiar jobs in the quaint town of Wausau, Wisconsin. Initially, this appears to be an ordinary cremation; however, it rapidly transforms into a terrifying inferno as the anonymous John Doe miraculously regains consciousness and escapes the burning oven.
