As a gamer with an affinity for movies and a soft spot for Tom Hanks, I can confidently say that the man is a true gem. His latest antics have only solidified my admiration for him. You see, this guy doesn’t just play the part of a good Samaritan in his films; he lives it in real life too!
In today’s world, being a celebrity can come with intense public scrutiny. Yet, if you’re a talented actor like Tom Hanks, you remain an adored figure and keep producing excellent movies. It’s no secret that Tom Hanks is as kind-hearted off-screen as many of his characters appear to be on screen. The star of “Catch Me If You Can” recently shared a humorous anecdote, which underscores this fact. For years, he has been donating coffee makers to the White House!
Indeed, you’ve understood it rightly. In a manner reminiscent of Mr. Rogers, it turns out that the actor from Asteroid City has been engaged in this kind deed every fourth year. Unbeknownst to many, Tom Hanks shared with ETalk that for more than two decades, he’s been supplying the White House Press Corps with coffee makers! The reason behind his generosity is quite particular: there’s a special connection between him and the press corps.
Is there always someone on duty at the White House, regardless of who the president is? That’s correct. We were there when George W. Bush was in office, and even then, someone was present in case an emergency occurred. They had this rather antiquated Mr. Coffee machine that looked like it had been around for over two decades. I asked if that was their coffee maker, to which they replied yes. So, we started providing them with perhaps a more modern, potentially safer version of the appliance, where the water could be hotter and they could make the coffee themselves.
This has to be the most dad thing ever, and that’s saying a lot for the man who’s been referred to as “America’s Dad.” So it totally tracks that the Elvis actor would be gifting coffee makers to the staff in the most important building in the country. I mean, it’s really the thought that counts. For staff to the Commander-In-Chief, there has to be a budget to get better coffee. However, the fact that Tom Hanks noticed it that one time and took it upon himself to always provide speaks volumes about the Sully actor’s character.

Discussing the enduring impact of this actor’s career can be challenging, as it’s tough to predict which aspects will resonate strongly 50 years from now. Will it be the charming dialogue from “Sleepless in Seattle” that still captivates audiences? Or perhaps his sharp wit from “A League of Their Own,” particularly when portraying the washed-up manager Jimmy Duggan? We also can’t ignore his later success with “A Man Called Otto.” However, the actor himself may have different thoughts on his cinematic legacy. In truth, it’s likely that many of his films will be remembered as timeless classics.
Beyond the accolades for Forrest Gump, let me just say that I believe Tom Hanks deserves recognition for far more than just his Academy Award-winning performance. If you recall, old Forrest would’ve probably even splurged on White House coffee makers if needed – and here’s a video where he talks about his special White House coffee tradition! It’s essential to remember his acts of kindness too.

Absolutely, it’s well known that Tom Hanks maintains a busy acting career. His latest projects include the 2024 film “Here,” where he collaborates once more with “Forrest Gump” co-star Robin Wright and director Robert Zemeckis. Additionally, you can catch him in “Toy Story 5,” set to hit theaters in 2026. I’m also keeping my fingers crossed for another romantic comedy with Meg Ryan. Here’s hoping that he continues his coffee tradition with the White House amidst his packed schedule.
1) Don’t miss the current movies showing at Here, and make sure to stay updated with the 2025 movie lineup, as you might find a film led by Tom Hanks on that schedule.
