Is it surprising to anyone that The Handmaid’s Tale seems more relevant as it approaches its final season? I wouldn’t have thought so, but here we are! As for the Hulu series based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, it has always resonated deeply since its 2017 debut. However, given the current state of affairs in the United States, the struggle for revolution in Gilead feels frighteningly similar to real-life events and the future some people envision for this nation. Consequently, we eagerly anticipate watching June (Elisabeth Moss) bring about a final upheaval.
Perhaps it’ll offer some insights as we navigate further into what seems to be an increasingly dystopian and fascist society, championed by the more radical conservatives. Assuming we manage to reach April 8th, the date when the sixth and final season starts. (It might sound dramatic, but then again, it might not!) In the interim, the show has also unveiled a gripping new teaser, hinting at the collapse of Gilead, which many of us eagerly anticipate.
Why Has It Taken Three Years To Get The Final Season Of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’?
In June’s narration, we see the Handmaids preparing, as if gearing up for a fight, though their captors remain oblivious. She explains that these garments, which they wear on our bodies, are meant to symbolize identity. She further clarifies that these garments are red, symbolizing blood, a marking imposed upon them.
The voiceover carries on with its ominous tone, implying that the leaders of Gilead have overlooked the fact that red is also a symbol of fury, representing the enraged women of Gilead who are determined to tolerate no more oppression from their rulers who view them merely as breeding machines for a Christian-fascist future. Suggesting an impending revolution, June’s speech continues: “The dress transformed into our uniform, and we turned into an army.
Even in the darkest valley, we won’t be afraid.
In scenes unfold, we witness violence, casualties, and even discord among the leading authorities. At a certain moment, it appears a significant wedding ceremony is underway — yet, it seems ominous for those advocating for the Gileadean lifestyle, such as Aunt Lydia portrayed by Ann Dowd. However, it remains uncertain which faction will emerge victorious in the battle for the soul of what was once America. The resolution to this saga starts on April 8, 2025, exclusively on Hulu.
The revolution shall be broadcast, and we urge everyone to stay attentive. Although this narrative might seem like an imaginative creation from one woman’s mind (Margaret Atwood), it echoes the prophetic cautionary tales of other science fiction authors, such as Octavia Butler’s “Parable of the Sower.” Its ominous significance should not be dismissed.
