As someone who has spent countless hours under the enchanting spell of Harry Potter since I was a child, I can’t help but feel like I’ve stumbled upon a time-turner and been magically transported back to my childhood days. The announcement that the upcoming series will be filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, the very same hallowed grounds where the magical world of Hogwarts came to life, has sent waves of nostalgia coursing through me.
Among the anticipated book adaptations, none seem as exciting as the upcoming TV series for the Harry Potter saga. With whispers about casting for major roles growing louder, Max has revealed a link that ties this new series to the cherished films we grew up with. Frankly, it’s an excellent (albeit impractical) choice that will undoubtedly stir waves of nostalgia in me.
Max has shared on Twitter that the forthcoming filming is set to take place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden this very summer! Take a look at his post down below:
Currently, it’s Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden that served as the filming site for the Harry Potter movies from the 2000s over a ten-year period.
Shortly after completing filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Warner Bros. unveiled their London-based exhibition – Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. This tour offers fans a chance to visit the actual filming locations and explore the detailed sets in person. It remains uncertain how the series’ production might impact the well-known England tourist spot. Given that sets like the Great Hall, Diagon Alley, Ministry of Magic, and others are still intact at Leavesden, it seems reasonable to speculate that they could be reused in future productions.
Indeed, it’s possible they could construct additional stages at that location. Yet, regardless of any changes, sharing the same studio creates an exceptional and unique link between the upcoming series and the cherished movies.
So far, it’s clear that Warner Bros. Discovery intends to create a loyal TV series adaptation of the books, delving deeper into each story for long-format television. ‘Succession’ producer Francesca Gardiner is in charge of the show, and J.K. Rowling serves as executive producer. Given Max’s earlier announcement that the show would debut in 2026, the news that production will start next year aligns perfectly with the timeline.
At present, the series is immersed in the audition phase for its cast, with Academy Award winner Mark Rylance allegedly being considered for Dumbledore and it seems Paapa Essiedu of ‘I May Destroy You’ is being negotiated for Snape. Since a large portion of the principal cast are child actors, HBO has opened up casting calls to discover Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and others.
As a fan who cherishes the original films’ use of practical sets, I’m thrilled by the possibility of the show continuing this tradition. These iconic locations are not only famous but also visited by many, and incorporating them into the new Harry Potter series could bring an enchanting feel to the production.
Initially, these scenes were primarily featured in “Harry Potter: Magic of Baking,” where James and Oliver Phelps revisited the original filming locations alongside bakers, enthusiasts, and fellow cast members. The sets are simply stunning to behold. I’m thrilled that Warner Bros. is utilizing these locations for the upcoming series, and I eagerly anticipate the magic they will weave when it becomes accessible to those with a Max subscription.
