As a gamer who has seen his fair share of sequels and reboots, I can confidently say that the potential return of “The Holiday” is something I never thought I needed, but now cannot imagine living without. The original film holds a special place in my heart as one of those rare romantic comedies that doesn’t feel like a chore to watch. The chemistry between Cameron Diaz and Jude Law was electric, and the quirky charm of the English cottage and sunny California house made me long for a virtual tour of both locations.
Once more, the season is upon us when one longs for either a snug fireplace in an old English cottage or a warm break from the snowfall. Fortunately, one of the most delightful Christmas romantic comedies, “The Holiday“, provides this ambiance, coupled with many heart-fluttering scenes. There were whispers about a sequel to this film two years ago, but those were soon quelled by director Nancy Meyers. However, recent developments show that Meyers has reunited with Jude Law, hinting at a potential sequel, and fans are overjoyed!
It’s time to extend our congratulations to Mr. Jude Law, who was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! To commemorate this remarkable accomplishment, he had lunch with Meyers once more. In recognition of his success and to fuel everyone’s curiosity, an Intern writer shared a video on Instagram, praising the actor from The Order, and inquiring about the possibility of a sequel to The Holiday. The duo hinted at a potential follow-up to The Holiday using a humorous reference.

Ah, it’s good to see Mr. Napkin Head is alive and well, and also willing to join a potential sequel. Fans seem to love the reference to the original film, which Nancy Meyers explained in a different Instagram post was actually inspired by a real bit her ex-husband used to do.
In the movie, Jude Law’s character, Graham, covers his face and glasses with a napkin as instructed by his daughters. Though it seems amusing, the moment is also touching, as Amanda (played by Cameron Diaz) shows affection towards the girls, despite initially being taken aback by their existence. This scene marks a significant shift in the plot, strengthening the bond between Graham and Amanda even more. Here’s a link to watch it: [Movie Scene Link]
While Nancy Meyers’ post is sweet, the icing on the cake is the array of funny responses from fans. It goes without saying that they seem to be all for a follow-up to the beloved 2006 film. Check out some of the responses below:
- For the love of god, please give us a sequel 😩😩😩😩we are dying without a new Nancy Meyers movie!!! –@naysoto
- The Holiday: Mr Napkin Head Strikes Again –@steppingthroughfilm
- Just casually breaking the internet 👀👀👀 –@simondavidkinberg
- ALL WE WANT FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!!!! –@jlgarvin
- This is not the time of year to be messing around with our hearts, Nancy! 😩🥰-@yeswhit
- The way I gasped when you mentioned a sequel thinking it was an official announcement!! 😭But Jude doing Mr Napkin Head made it all ok. 🥰 –@brightbazaar
Regarding the initial movie, it’s the relationship between Diaz and Law that continues to impress me. Their interaction sparkles in a way that feels genuine, offering a refreshing contrast to the typical clichés found in many modern Christmas romantic comedies, particularly those on Netflix. Given this, even though I’m not usually keen on instant sequels for standalone films, I have faith in the Parent Trap director to handle it effectively.
The film would only be successful if we could reunite the original four cast members. Although Kate Winslet and Jack Black have expressed some interest previously, the challenge lies in persuading Cameron Diaz to join. Following a break from acting, the actress who starred in “The Other Woman” is set to return with her upcoming film titled “Back In Action,” slated for release in 2025. Despite expressing willingness for more projects, Cameron Diaz has stated that she no longer wishes to be involved in romantic comedies.
Regardless of whether it’s accurate or not, there might be an exception made if a new movie from Nancy Meyers indeed materializes, considering how much fans have longed for a sequel. Given that Meyers has firmly denied the possibility of a sequel in the past, I find it highly unlikely that she is simply joking about it now.
As a gaming enthusiast, if this outpouring of support continues, we might just witness the much-anticipated sequel of our favorite movie, “The Holiday.” I’d be thrilled to catch up with those two couples, celebrating Christmas a decade later, and let’s not forget, more Mr. Napkin Head would be fantastic! However, the original film is tough to beat, but hey, if you haven’t seen it yet, stream The Holiday on Prime Video now with your subscription.
