As a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and a long-time follower of the Canadian entertainment industry, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the return of The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Canada summit! Having grown up idolizing the trailblazing women who have graced our screens, it’s heartening to see such a significant event that not only celebrates their achievements but also provides a platform for the next generation.
The Hollywood Reporter is planning to revive its Women in Entertainment brand for a second yearly event in Canada, as revealed on Thursday.
The “Women in Entertainment Canada” summit, scheduled for May 29 in Toronto, aims to unite the Canadian entertainment sectors spanning TV, film, and music. This gathering is designed to honor and acknowledge the impressive accomplishments of women who are leading the way within our industry.
The success of the event’s outcome can be attributed to the inaugural WIE Canada summit held on May 30, which brought together renowned Canadian entertainers from television, film, and music such as Lilly Singh, Nia Vardalos, Devery Jacobs, Kim Cattrall, Catherine Reitman, and Jully Black.
The first WIE Canada event was an immense success and a fantastic extension of our initial event,” remarked Nekesa Mumbi Moody and Maer Roshan, co-editors-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re thrilled to see it come back for its second year, and we’re excited to continue this exceptional collaboration. It’s a great pleasure to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of Canadian women in this field, and we feel deeply honored to be involved.
For the second time, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) will team up with Access Canada for the Women in Entertainment Canada (WIE Canada) gathering in 2025. Ferne Cohen, president of Access Canada, expressed her excitement about this event’s return, stating, “Access Canada is delighted to bring back Women in Entertainment Canada for 2025! We are honored to carry on our partnership with The Hollywood Reporter as we showcase the remarkable women of the Canadian entertainment scene. Our aim remains to deliver an authentic Canadian event that is both powerful and inspiring, following in the footsteps of The Hollywood Reporter’s esteemed legacy.”
THR plans to release its second yearly “Canadian Women in Entertainment Power List” during the 2025 event, emphasizing ongoing endeavors towards gender equality and significant advancements for Canadian women in the entertainment industry.
At the 2025 WIE Canada event, attendees can expect more than just keynote speeches, panel discussions, and tribute ceremonies. A significant addition to this year’s gathering is the introduction of a mentorship program.
