As a gamer speaking in first person, I, a voice actor known for playing Taka (Scar) in Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, am thrilled to announce that I’ve joined the expanding cast of Lionsgate’s upcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ latest bestseller, Sunrise of the Reaping – the next installment in The Hunger Games franchise.
Reports indicate that Glenn Close might take up a role within the movie, but it’s undecided if an agreement will be reached regarding this possibility.
In this upcoming prequel, Joseph Zada steps into the role of Haymitch Abernathy, with Whitney Peak portraying his love interest, Lenore Dove Baird. The narrative centers around the beloved character Haymitch, who in the original Hunger Games book series (and subsequent film adaptations) served as a mentor to the heroine Katniss Everdeen, a role previously played by Woody Harrelson in the original Hunger Games films.
The new prequel stars Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy and Whitney Peak as his girlfriend Lenore Dove Baird. It tells a story about Haymitch, who was Katniss Everdeen’s mentor in the original Hunger Games books and movies. Woody Harrelson played Haymitch in the original films.
McKenna Grace and Jesse Plemons are additionally part of the cast, with Francis Lawrence serving as the director.
Harrison will portray Beetee, the victor from the 34th Hunger Games, a role previously filled by Jeffrey Wright in the original films. The series prequel “Reaping” takes us back to the world of Panem, twenty-four years before the main narrative’s start.
Billy Ray penned the screenplay. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson from Color Force are handling production duties. Cameron MacConomy will serve as an executive producer.
Lionsgate is optimistic about the movie adaptation of ‘Reaping’, as the book achieved tremendous success during its launch on March 18, selling an impressive 1.5 million copies in its first week across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The company notes that the 1.2 million copies sold in the U.S. alone were double the initial sales of ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’, the latest Hunger Games novel, and more than three times the initial sales of ‘Mockingjay’, the final book of the original trilogy.
Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.
In the movies, Harrison has taken on different roles, such as depicting Fred Hampton in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” B.B. King in Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” Martin Luther King in Nat Geo’s miniseries “Genius: MLK/X,” and he will soon play Jean-Michel Basquiat in “Samo Lives,” where he will also act as executive producer.
He is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME), Anonymous Content, and the law firm Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang.
The InSneider newsletter first reported the Reaping castings.
