As a dedicated fan who has followed the NCIS franchise since its inception, I can confidently say that it feels like I’ve grown up with this show. From the early days of Gibbs and his team to the latest spin-offs, each episode has been a delightful addition to my TV viewing experience.
The NCIS series, which celebrates more than two decades of success, continues to thrive. Notably, a prequel titled NCIS: Origins recently debuted on television schedules for 2024, and another spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, is expected to premiere soon for Paramount+ subscribers. Evidently, CBS has shown significant commitment to the franchise’s expansion. Moreover, a Paramount executive has discussed the substantial financial returns that NCIS has generated throughout its tenure.
NCIS, undeniably, stands as one of the most thriving television series franchises. This year alone, it marked its 1,000th episode, and it seems quite plausible that it may reach 2,000 episodes in the future. Across a total of seven shows so far and more to come, various streaming deals (such as Netflix, Hulu, and Paramount+), and other factors, Paramount Global’s Chief Content Licensing Officer and President of Republic Pictures, Dan Cohen, highlighted during his MIPCOM keynote (via Deadline) the substantial revenue that the procedural series has generated for Paramount Global Content Distribution. The figures are truly remarkable.
Remember that we’ve produced around 1,000 episodes; the licensing deals for NCIS have amounted to over $4.5 billion so far.
It’s not surprising at all that NCIS has generated a massive profit for CBS. Not only does it boast numerous series, but the flagship show has been CBS’s top-rated program for several years, even with occasional cast changes. Even when Mark Harmon left at the start of Season 19, some believed this would be the end for the series. However, it not only survived but continued to prosper. Now, with Harmon returning for Origins, we can see how influential and popular this franchise truly is.
Given the considerable financial success of NCIS, it’s hard to imagine its conclusion in the near future. This perspective becomes even stronger when one takes note of its continued growth with spin-offs such as Origins and Tony & Ziva.
The Mothership series remains as engaging and consistent as always, entering its 22nd season. Fans are left breathless with anticipation, not just because Vance’s quasi-girlfriend returned, but also due to the continuation of Knight’s storyline. Previously assigned at Camp Pendleton as a REACT training officer, Knight is now back permanently with her team in DC. Meanwhile, McGee is eagerly striving for advancement after more than two decades, and I truly hope he gets promoted soon.
Speaking as a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the new perspectives we’re getting from NCIS: Origins. Instead of just knowing Gibbs, this series is taking us back to his past and adding depth to his story. Austin Stowell has taken on the role, with Harmon providing narrative guidance and occasional appearances. On the other hand, I can hardly contain my excitement for NCIS: Tony & Ziva, where Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo will reprise their beloved characters. They’re on the move across Europe with their tween daughter, keeping us hooked!
Essentially, there’s no doubt that these stories are adored and eagerly anticipated by many, which means substantial profits for the network. Now, let’s get thrilled about what awaits us in the future for different NCIS series, as they consistently rank high both in terms of popularity and earnings for CBS.
