Season two of The Last of Us has — at last — a specific premiere date.
I can hardly contain my excitement! Starting from April 13, the upcoming seven-episode dramatic series will unfold on HBO. With the finale set for late May, it looks like we’ll be able to catch the very end of it in time for this year’s Emmy nominations – right under the wire!
The opening performance will occur two years and a month following the conclusion of the first season of The Last of Us, which aired in March 2023. This series was one of HBO’s most successful since the finale of Game of Thrones, attracting approximately 30 million viewers across various platforms per episode and receiving eight Emmys, including awards for guest acting performances by Storm Reid and Nick Offerman.
Five years following the incidents from the initial season, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) find themselves embroiled in disputes and confronting a world that’s not only hostile but also more perilous and unstable than the one they previously knew.
In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, the second season lineup features returning actors Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley, as well as new faces Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright. Catherine O’Hara makes a special appearance.
Craig Mazin (known for “Chernobyl”) and Neil Druckmann, the creator of the popular video game “The Last of Us,” serve as both writers and executive producers for the series. In addition, Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells also act as executive producers; Halley Gross is a writer and co-executive producer. The production of this series is a joint effort between Sony Pictures Television and HBO.
