As a die-hard film fan, I can’t help but marvel at the phenomenal success of the Fast & Furious series, raking in billions worldwide. The anticipation for more installments, with Fast and Furious 11 on the horizon and a fresh Dwayne Johnson spinoff in the works, is palpable. However, it seems that Vin Diesel‘s mainstay franchise may be facing some uncertainty, as the future of the next movie remains unclear.
It was initially planned that the follow-up to “Fast X” would premiere in cinemas this year. However, currently, production hasn’t started yet, and there isn’t a predicted commencement date. The reported reason is that Vin Diesel has been finding it difficult to secure funding for additional “Fast & Furious” movies.
The Next Fast & Furious Movie Is Reportedly Having Budget Problems
It’s surprising that a film in the Fast & Furious series is encountering financial difficulties, according to RadarOnline. They claim that Vin Diesel is aiming for a large budget for the next installment, but given the previous movie’s box office performance, this might not be possible.
In simpler terms, “Fast X” earned a staggering $715 million worldwide, yet its production cost, excluding advertising and distribution expenses, is said to have reached an astounding $340 million. This means that the previous film barely turned a profit. It’s been proposed that “Fast & Furious 11” might need to reduce its budget expectations if it aims to be more attractive to those who decide where the money comes from.
Prior to the release of “Fast X”, speculation arose that the final film in the series might extend into a trilogy. Yet, it appears the sequel will only be one more standalone movie. Nevertheless, there are other aspects of the franchise that we had anticipated.
The Rock’s Fast & Furious Future Is Still A Big Question
Without a doubt, aside from the immediate follow-up to Fast X, there’s another intriguing development within the Fast & Furious universe that leaves us guessing. The post-credit scene from Fast X hinted at Dwayne Johnson rejoining the franchise, news that was subsequently followed by the unveiling of a new spinoff film. Unfortunately, like the sequel to Fast X, this spinoff project is also uncertain and delayed.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but wonder about the dynamic between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson now, following their somewhat tense encounter at the Golden Globes a few weeks back. It’s clear that the lingering questions surrounding their past disagreement still linger.
It’s not unusual for a movie sequel to never materialize if the initial film didn’t do well at the box office. While there’s no sign that the Fast & Furious series is in trouble, it’s possible that Vin Diesel might have to work with a smaller budget than he desires, which could affect the quality of the final installment and potentially disappoint both him and the fans.
