The Masked Singer’s Leaf Sheep Revealed His Honest Feelings About The Panel Guessing He Was Tom Brady

As a gamer who has seen his fair share of sports documentaries and reality TV shows, I must admit that The Masked Singer has always been an intriguing spectacle. The latest season 12 premiere was no different, with the Super Bowl-winning Leaf Sheep being unmasked as none other than John Elway.

In its 12th season on Fox’s fall TV lineup, The Masked Singer unveiled another batch of mysteriously costumed singers. As expected, the first big reveal was a fairly obvious one. Although the panel eventually managed to correctly identify the first contestant who won the Super Bowl, they initially confused this individual with legendary football player Tom Brady. Unfortunately, “Leaf Sheep” was eliminated from the competition, and as a former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion, TopMob couldn’t help but contemplate the comparison to the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).

It wasn’t too far-fetched an assumption that Brady might appear on The Masked Singer panel. Given his high-profile football commentating job at Fox, it seemed plausible they would leverage this opportunity for promotion. However, it turned out not to be him, but I did manage to have a chat with the masked individual (who happens to be a legendary quarterback), discussing the comparison between himself and the possible GOAT.

John Elway Was Unmasked As The Leaf Sheep

John Elway, the twice-crowned Super Bowl quarterback of the Denver Broncos, emerged from a distinctly designed automobile. Indeed, it was none other than John Elway himself. Throughout his illustrious career, he garnered numerous accolades, yet singing lessons were never on his schedule. When asked about his abrupt departure by TopMob, Elway admitted that his singing skills were no match for the pros, and thus, his unexpected exit was not a shock to him.

How John Elway Felt Being Compared To Tom Brady

Initially, Ken Jeong astonished everyone by guessing John Elway as Leaf Sheep ahead of the other panelists. However, Tom Brady’s name was also suggested, which I couldn’t help but laugh about, despite him being a legendary figure often associated with the New England Patriots’ monumental success. Interestingly, John Elway was once a highly discussed quarterback in the league, so I asked for his perspective on being compared to his younger counterpart.

It’s clear that Tom Brady’s achievements and the respect I have for him aren’t new information. Given my lengthy absence from football, it wasn’t unexpected that the newer players were guessed instead. However, Tom Brady, as you know, is someone I hold in high regard. So, I was relieved when Kenny [Jeong] eventually recognized me, and they chose me. This validation made me feel better, but I never felt insulted. In fact, I thought it was unlikely they’d guess who it was, but Kenny managed to figure it out.

As a die-hard fan, I’d rephrase John Elway’s statement like this: I wholeheartedly agree that the panel made the correct decision in the end, but let me clarify something – I’ve never taken offense to being compared with Tom Brady. You see, he’s got that Netflix roast, dominates television as a commentator on Sundays, and occasionally shares posts that might be considered “thirst traps.” But back in the ’80s and ’90s, I was shining brightly too. I completely understand why people might lean towards recency bias when considering other legendary quarterbacks, given the impact of recent events.

Bravo to Elway for his truthful reply and for joining The Masked Singer. It’s worth noting that participants don’t receive significant compensation, and he didn’t have any tours or promotional projects lined up. Instead, he stepped out of his comfort zone to take part in the show simply for the enjoyment, even expressing to TopMob that he wished he had more time to practice. Regardless, his unmasking added a thrilling twist to conclude the Season 12 premiere.

The Masked Singer airs on Fox on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET, so get ready for a fun season!
