As a lifelong Marvel fan and someone who grew up with the MCU since its inception, I can’t help but reflect on the impact “Avengers: Endgame” had on me and the community of fans. The film was more than just a movie; it was an emotional rollercoaster, a celebration of a decade-long journey, and a testament to the power of storytelling.
In 2019, Marvel Studios concluded the third phase and the Infinity Saga with “Avengers: Endgame.” Following Thanos (Josh Brolin) and the Infinity Stones’ devastation that wiped out half of all existence, the surviving Avengers embarked on a time-travel journey to reverse the damage. The film was packed with stunning visuals, heartfelt scenes, and long-awaited hero pairings. While it had its share of complex moments and wasn’t flawless, “Endgame” overall delivered an impressive finale for many Marvel Cinematic Universe fans on Reddit, who believe it should have marked the end of the franchise instead of serving as a prelude to the Multiverse Saga.
User u/Rainfall307 posed a question to MCU fans: Would they have preferred “Endgame” as the last installment in the franchise? Many responded affirmatively, including u/Optimistic-Man-3609 who believed it would have been perfect and unlike Hollywood’s usual practice of milking franchises for more profits. u/Local-Art-6280 confessed to enjoying the Multiverse Saga but felt “Endgame” offered a satisfying conclusion. Lastly, u/Joshawott27 expressed that from Marvel Studios’ perspective, ending with “Endgame” would have solidified their legacy and gone out on a high note despite the appeal of subsequent projects.
Simultaneously, many people are relieved that “Endgame” didn’t serve as the MCU’s final chapter.
Many MCU fans are glad the Multiverse Saga has come to fruition
In the development of the Multiverse Saga, Marvel Studios’ reputation for producing captivating and enjoyable superhero productions has faced some challenges. Films such as “The Marvels” failed to draw crowds at the box office, while shows like “Secret Invasion” encountered criticism from both critics and viewers. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that there have been successes as well, including “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Loki,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The latter being Marvel’s only Certified Fresh film on Rotten Tomatoes in 2022. It comes as no surprise that many believe Marvel should have continued their journey beyond “Avengers: Endgame” and are pleased with the current outcome.
In response to the discussion about the MCU ending after “Endgame,” u/Nominay expressed his disappointment by saying, “Everyone may think it was perfect, but honestly, I look forward to my annual dose of Marvel Cinematic Universe films.” u/Smaragd44 added to the conversation stating, “Leaving so many stories untold with the potential return of beloved characters like Wolverine, and the introduction of the Fantastic Four among others, just doesn’t feel right to me.”
No matter which camp you’re in, it’s undeniable that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has continued to thrive following the release of “Avengers: Endgame.” The question remains: Will the Multiverse Saga be able to match the epicness of the Infinity Saga? Only time will tell as we eagerly anticipate the upcoming phases of the MCU, unfolding both on the big screen and small.
