The Mistake In The Squid Game Season 2 Finale Everyone Missed

In a nutshell, the climax of “Squid Game” Season 2 becomes quite turbulent, affecting not only the characters and viewers, but also one unfortunate production team member who found themselves swept up in the chaos.

In the thrilling finale of this season, I, as a devoted viewer, find myself on the edge of my seat as protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) orchestrates and executes an audacious armed rebellion against the game’s controllers. The pace is breakneck during this action-packed sequence, so if you missed a detail that seems out of place, you wouldn’t be alone. However, eagle-eyed fans have pointed out that a handheld camera operator can be seen right in the heat of the action around the three-quarter mark of the episode.

In contrast to shows such as “The Hunger Games” and “The Running Man,” which attribute their deadly competitions to public broadcasting, “Squid Game” cannot simply shrug off its camera operator’s presence with such a flimsy explanation. Alternatively, it is plausible that the show could offer an explanation for the camera operator’s role. In Season 1, there are scenes where wealthy spectators watch game footage on screens in a luxurious lounge. A possible in-universe justification might be that this cameraman was taking risks to capture footage for the masked men who were wagering on the games.

How’d he get in there?

It seems that this error slipped into the final version of the show, indicating that several cameras were filming simultaneously during the scene to capture all the important details as they unfolded amidst the confusion. This isn’t common in single-camera dramas where coverage is usually acquired by shooting multiple takes with different camera setups and angles.

To accurately recreate the chaotic intensity of the gun battle, it appears as though multiple camera operators were strategically positioned and instructed to focus on crucial aspects. This way, they would not need to repeat their efforts for each part of the event.

As a dedicated viewer, I must admit that it’s not unusual to spot blunders finding their way into the vast tapestry of TV and film production. From cameras and boom mics to lighting equipment and crew members, these uninvited guests have made appearances in productions of all shapes and sizes throughout the years. However, with today’s digital wizards able to magically remove almost anything from a scene, such oversights have unfortunately become a popular target for laughter on social media.

Other flubs that have made final cuts

It’s hard to overlook the instance when a Starbucks cup seemingly traveled across time and space to appear on “Game of Thrones”. During the show’s final season, an unmistakable paper cup with a plastic lid was spotted sitting on a table in plain view, right where Daenerys (played by Emilia Clarke) sat. Given her character’s dramatic turn near the end of the series, it seems she might have needed a quick coffee break to cope with the transformation.

One noticeable blunder in the 2019 “Cats” film that left viewers chuckling was an instance where Dame Judi Dench’s genuine human hand appeared from the sleeve of her feline character, Old Deuteronomy, towards the end of the movie. Despite Universal Studios claiming they would release a revised version of the film with improved special effects, several other scenes in the movie still show Dench and other actors with unaltered human hands. In some instances, even Dench’s wedding ring is visible. However, in certain parts of the movie, the hands appear to be more skillfully integrated into the characters’ costumes.

Was the inclusion of human hands in the movie “Cats” perhaps an oversight or merely something that fans found odd-looking? It remains uncertain. However, what can be confirmed is that a camera operator probably should not have been among the players in the show “Squid Game”, and he will likely be remembered as another unexpected but memorable cameo in film history.
