As a passionate aficionado of Stephen King‘s work, I can proudly say that my dedication knows no bounds. My home isn’t just filled with first editions of almost every book he’s written, or physical copies of all the films and TV adaptations available – it’s a veritable shrine to King’s imagination. From action figures and prop replicas to promotional items, I’ve got an eclectic mix that would make any collector green with envy. My ultimate goal? To assemble the most comprehensive Stephen King collection out there – and the new AMC popcorn bucket for The Monkey is just the latest addition to my ever-growing library!
Ever since the NSFW Dune popcorn bucket became a viral sensation last year, specialized snack containers have become an integral part of the cinematic experience. Following the Roman coliseum for Gladiator II and Captain America’s shield for Captain America: Brave New World, we now have this eerie tribute to celebrate the upcoming Stephen King adaptation (hitting theaters on February 21).

It’s admittedly obvious, but it’s also perfect in its obviousness.
For those who may not have been following along, the main antagonist in the movie “The Monkey” is actually a malevolent wind-up toy that causes harm whenever its key is activated. In the original Stephen King short story, the cursed item was a traditional cymbal-playing monkey, but due to rights complications, the design was altered for the film. Rather than creating cymbal sounds, it now uses drumsticks to strike a snare drum that it carries between its legs.
The movie revolves around two sets of identical twins who stumble upon a monkey hidden in the closet of their long-lost father. After a menacing toy wreaks havoc on their family, reminiscent of tearing through tissue paper, they manage to keep it under control for some time. However, as the siblings grow into separate adults, the monstrous toy resurfaces with chilling consequences years later.
The similarity between the popcorn bucket and the movie prop is remarkable… However, for truly dedicated fans, it’s worth considering bringing red food coloring to their screening of The Monkey. This way, they can dye the popcorn beforehand, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the experience. It’s important to note that one of the reasons this upcoming horror film is generating so much excitement is its potential to be remembered as one of the goriest Stephen King adaptations ever made. This bloody aspect has been effectively teased in the trailers and previews, promising a thrilling viewing experience for fans.
Under the guidance of director Osgood Perkins, known as Longlegs, and featuring a stellar cast including Theo James, Christian Convery, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Colin O’Brien, and Rohan Campbell, “The Monkey” is one of the most anticipated films set to hit theaters in February. Don’t miss it when it premieres in theatres nationwide on February 21st. (My four-star TopMob review offers insights into why this movie has generated such buzz without revealing any spoilers.)
