As a seasoned horror aficionado with a penchant for the macabre and a soft spot for Stephen King adaptations, I can confidently say that Osgood Perkins’ take on “The Monkey” has me genuinely intrigued. The teaser trailer alone was enough to send chills down my spine and leave me eagerly anticipating more.

Director Osgood Perkins, known for his work on “Longlegs,” is set to deliver a chilling experience for horror enthusiasts with his next project. This new movie is an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story titled “The Monkey.” Recently, Neon Studios unveiled the initial teaser trailer for this upcoming film, which was shown during the weekend screenings of the movie “Cuckoo.”

In the opening scene, a toy monkey emerges from the darkness, shrouded in shadow while eerie circus tunes play. Theo James, known for his role in ‘The White Lotus’, unexpectedly appears, drenched in blood that would make Homelander uncomfortable. The series, titled ‘The Monkey’, follows twin brothers Hal and Bill (James), who have been tormented since they discovered the haunted vintage toy monkey in their father’s attic. As more and more people mysteriously die, they realize that the only way to defeat this bloodthirsty little monkey is by resolving their own conflicts so they can unite against it and put an end to its killing spree for good.

Renowned horror director James Wan directed “The Monkey,” featuring talented actors such as Tatiana Maslany from “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” Elijah Wood known for “Yellowjackets,” Rohan Campbell starring in “Halloween Ends,” Sarah Levy of “Schitt’s Creek,” and Christian Convery portraying the younger versions of the twins.

Despite limited information available on Neon’s Stephen King adaptation, only what can be found through a casual web search reveals a few details. The public is eagerly waiting for any promo materials to be shared and are curious about why this antique toy monkey seems sinister and how the twin characters will manage to overcome it in the movie. Ultimately, fans can unravel the chilling enigmas surrounding The Monkey when it hits theaters.

Stephen King initially published “The Monkey” as a short story in the 1980 issue of Gallery magazine, subsequently adding it to his collection titled “Skeleton Crew.” This tale later received a nomination for a British Fantasy Award. Although the original narrative centers around brothers Peter and Dennis instead of Hal and Bill, the terrifying claps from the toy monkey’s cymbals continue to cause equal amounts of chaos.

As reported by Deadline, filming for “The Monkey” wrapped up in March 2024. The talented team of producers, which includes Chris Ferguson from “Child’s Play” and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from “Insidious,” assisted in this process. Currently, they are working on creating extra promotional materials to further heighten the anticipation among fans for what’s to be revealed.

Instead of potentially stalling in production limbo like other independent horror films, the allure of adapting a Stephen King original story likely gave The Monkey an advantageous start. Black Bear Pictures spearheaded the development of The Monkey and offered it for sale by June 2023. By March 2024, they had secured its main cast members, and it is now scheduled for release in February 2025.

In horror films, dolls and toys often prove to be popular elements, and Perkins has already demonstrated his knack for creating blockbuster productions. Although the teaser trailer doesn’t disclose much information, it effectively generates the perfect level of excitement for what the movie will unveil when it premieres in theaters on February 21, 2025. The Monkey is set to hit the screens soon!
