The “action series” titled “” is back for its second season, but things might take a drastic turn as the story unfolds. In an interview with Variety, creator Shawn Ryan and lead actor Gabriel Basso hinted that future seasons of this suspenseful series could see a change in leadership, with “The Night Agent” possibly focusing on different characters who become embroiled in conspiracies during their night shifts.
Ryan mentioned that there might be a chance for adding a new primary character at some point in the future, hinting that Basso may wish to depart the series and explore different opportunities.
For how long does Gabriel intend to participate in ‘The Night Agent’? Please note that the show is titled ‘The Night Agent,’ not ‘The Gabriel Basso Show.’ At some point, he might choose to pursue other opportunities, and then a new night agent would take over.
‘The Night Agent’ Has Already Been Renewed for Season 3
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that “The Night Agent” has been greenlit for a third season! Excitingly, our favorite FBI agent Peter Sutherland, portrayed by the talented Joe Adler, will be back. However, after wrapping up Season 3, Adler intends to take some well-deserved time off. Moreover, he’s hinted at the intensity of the action potentially putting Peter in harm’s way, which could necessitate a new protagonist for potential future seasons.
Intriguingly, when asked about his character’s resemblance to a renowned Marvel Cinematic Universe hero, Adler drew some fascinating parallels…
It seems likely that I’ll need to step away for a bit. I believe Peter is taking on some crucial decisions right now. If we always depicted him as okay at the end of each season, it might not serve our audience well.
This season, I’m safeguarding two historical figures! Eventually, the viewers will realize that they don’t want to witness an invincible character. While viewing the Captain America film, it’s clear that Captain America won’t meet his end.
I’m protecting two famous characters this season! It won’t take long for people to understand that no one wants to see a character who can’t be harmed. When you watch the Captain America movie, it’s obvious that Captain America isn’t going to perish.
From the novel by Matthew Quirk, titled The Night Agent, the story revolves around a relatively unimportant FBI agent who spends his days in the White House basement, answering a phone that rarely rings – until one fateful night when it does, sparking an exhilarating and perilous chain of events that ultimately reaches the Oval Office. The show premiered on Netflix on January 23, and the second season has been a massive success for the streaming service. However, unlike the overwhelming acclaim for its first season, the second installment has sparked much debate among viewers. As of now, it has a score of 89% from critics but only 49% from audiences on the Popcornmeter.
In stark contrast to the critics’ praise for the series’ increased confidence in its second season and finding it sufficiently entertaining without any unnecessary complications, viewers seem to have a completely different opinion. Mike H, one of many users on Rotten Tomatoes, criticized the return of the show as “ridiculously wooden acting and annoying characters,” particularly Rose, questioning her appointment as a secret agent. Felix J added to the criticism, stating that the writing is poor and the acting is terrible, making it laughable due to some absurd plot points. They both agreed that the second season significantly diminished the enjoyment from the first, suggesting that perhaps introducing a new main character could be exactly what “The Night Agent” needs to regain audience interest.
