As a gamer who vividly remembers the golden age of TV, I can’t help but feel nostalgic about the reunion of The O.C.’ gang. Rachel Bilson, the ever-lovable Summer Roberts, and her cohorts transported us to Newport Beach two decades ago, and it feels like just yesterday! It’s mind-blowing to think that I was around the same age as Rachel when she shot the pilot – talk about a blast from the past.
Rachel Bilson and a few close friends welcomed fans back to The O.C.
On a special occasion in West Hollywood, actor Peter Bilson (known for his role as Summer Roberts on The O.C., a beloved Fox teen drama series that ended in 2007 after four seasons), was accompanied by the series creator Josh Schwartz and executive producer Stephanie Savage. They gathered to commemorate the show’s 21st anniversary, with an unexpected musical performance by Phantom Planet. This band entertained the crowd with several tunes, including their hit single “California,” which was the theme song for the show.
“Twenty-one years have passed since then, and it’s tough to wrap my head around that fact,” Bilson shared with attendees. “But here’s something I discovered: I was just as old as the show when we filmed its first episode. Wow, isn’t that amazing?”

When presenting Phantom Planet, Schwartz remarked, “This band was essential to The O.C.. We’re overjoyed that we could incorporate their music into our series, and even more delighted that they’re with us here tonight.”
To kick off their performance, the frontman of the band, Alex Greenwood, voiced his gratitude for being involved in this series. “Twenty-one years is hard to believe,” he exclaimed. “It feels like it was only a month ago.”
21Seeds Tequila, the brand that supported the event, has teamed up with Bilson and Fake Empire, a production company established by Schwartz and Savage, for a promotional effort honoring the character portrayed by the actress, Summer Roberts. Recently, Schwartz and Savage have taken on executive producer roles in TV shows like “Gossip Girl,” “Runaways,” and “City on Fire.”
First airing on August 5, 2003, “The O.C.” introduced actors such as Peter Gallagher, Ben McKenzie, Mischa Barton, Adam Brody, and Tate Donovan. This series centered around Ryan Atwood (played by Ben McKenzie), a troubled teenager who moved into the pool house of his attorney Sandy Cohen (portrayed by Peter Gallagher) and their wealthy family in upscale Newport Beach.
