This year, four films are set to release, starting with “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare”. These are part of the ever-growing Twisted Childhood Universe from Jagged Edge Productions. The grand finale will be the crossover event, “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble“, reminiscent of both the Avengers and Destroy All Monsters, scheduled for 2025. This expansion is a result of the massive financial success of the Winnie-the-Pooh films, “Blood and Honey” and its sequel.
In the vibrant world of cinema, I was thrilled to learn about the upcoming release of “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble,” a project first unveiled in the blooming season of 2024. The filmmakers have openly acknowledged their inspiration from the electrifying clash of “Freddy Vs. Jason” and the epic team-up of “The Avengers.” They’ve promised an experience brimming with chaos – a promise I eagerly await to see fulfilled.
Behind the lens for this intriguing project is Rhys Frake-Waterfield, a name that resonates in my mind as the co-writer of the chilling “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare” and the director of the captivating “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” films. I can hardly contain my excitement to witness what this visionary filmmaker will bring to the table with “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.
As a passionate cinephile, I had the pleasure of chatting with Scott Chambers, the joint writer and director of “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.” During our conversation, he shared some intriguing insights about the characters we can expect to see in “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble,” where it turns out that none other than Peter Pan will be taking on the role of the main antagonist.
In this project, each film will have its unique atmosphere, and this one is particularly somber. It’s crucial that you develop a specific emotional response towards Peter Pan. By the time we reach the “Poohniverse,” I want you to dislike him from the start, even oppose him initially. When he steps into the arena with characters like Pooh, I want you to view Pooh as not entirely villainous.
Additionally, Chambers outlined who would be teaming up with Peter Pan – namely, Mary Poppins and the Mad Hater. The producer stated that Mary Poppins is “more like a child-grabber… I’m confident she and Peter Pan will hit it off marvelously.” He further expressed that the collaboration of Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, and the Mad Hatter will be “quite a spectacle to behold“. They have plans for standalone films featuring both Mary Poppins and the Mad Hatter in the future.
Chambers mentions additional characters he’s talking about, such as Winnie-the-Pooh, Bambi, and Pinocchio. It is noted that Pinocchio will be featured in a movie set to release in 2025 before “Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.” Additionally, Chambers touched upon the high-stakes action in this film reminiscent of the Avengers series.
In my role as a storyteller, I dislike stories without any deaths or high stakes… This upcoming tale is going to be thrilling and brutal, and I plan on causing the demise of many characters. I want it to be dark and gritty. Don’t let yourself become too emotionally invested in any character, as there’s a good chance they won’t make it through. With these initial films, don’t assume that Wendy or Christopher Robin (the character played by Chambers) will survive; none of them are safe. It’ll be a game of survival for everyone, including the villains. I believe this approach adds an element of excitement to the story, so there won’t be many survivors in the end.
Four Poohniverse Films are Opening in 2025
2025 is shaping up to be a bustling year for the Twisted Childhood Universe, with four spine-tingling movies set to premiere. Among them are “Peter Pan’s Nightmare in Neverland,” “Bambi: The Untold Terror,” “Pinocchio: Unraveled” (starring horror veterans Robert Englund and Richard Brake), and “Poohniverse: Monsters United.” Each film guarantees a generous dose of chills and gore.
For a limited time only, the movie “Neverland Nightmare starring Peter Pan” will be screening in cinemas from January 13 to 15, 2025. As for the other four movies, their release dates have not been announced yet.
