The PS5 Pro’s Image Enhancement Feature Will Take Your PS4 Games To The Next Level

The PS5 Pro’s Image Enhancement Feature Will Take Your PS4 Games To The Next Level

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours battling the horrors of Yharnam on my PlayStation 4, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and disappointment upon hearing about the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro. On one hand, the prospect of seeing Bloodborne in all its enhanced glory is tantalizing, especially after enduring the game’s performance issues for so long. However, as someone who has been waiting patiently for a 60 FPS version of this masterpiece, I can’t help but feel like Sony is just dangling a carrot in front of my face.

Story Highlights

  • The PlayStation 5 Pro is Sony’s answer for a mid-gen hardware refresh for this platform.
  • The console ships with an innate image upscaling feature to enhance PlayStation 4 games.
  • The feature does not improve the performance of said games, however, and is only aesthetic.

The advanced PlayStation 5 Pro comes with an integrated enhancement for enhancing the graphics of PlayStation 4 games. This feature is system-wide, meaning it’s likely to be applied to a majority, if not all, titles from the previous console. To give you an idea, gaming expert Kami recently posted a comparison between Bloodborne running on both the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Absolutely, as this enhancement is solely aesthetic, there won’t be any noticeable increase in performance. Achieving Bloodborne at 60 FPS continues to be an aspiration that may remain unfulfilled for an indeterminate amount of time until Sony takes action on it. For now, you are welcome to visit Imgsli and witness the real-time difference between the two versions.

On the PlayStation blog, the CEO, Hideaki Nishino, previously confirmed that the upgraded PS5 model, referred to as the PS5 Pro, will offer improved visual quality for certain PS4 games, such as Bloodborne, when it’s released.

Additional improvements encompass the PS5 Pro Game Boost, enabling it to optimize over 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on the PS5 Pro. This feature can enhance or stabilize performance in supported PS4 and PS5 titles. Additionally, Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is provided to boost resolution on certain PS4 games.

Bloodborne’s Performance Has Always Been A Real Problem

It’s baffling to me how a game like Bloodborne never got its due treatment, not by FromSoftware and definitely not by Sony. Even to this day, the game struggles to maintain a 30 FPS frame rate on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Now that’s a real shame.

The advanced version of PlayStation 5, dubbed as PlayStation 5 Pro, will be available in stores by late November, priced at $699. According to Sony’s top executives, this premium model is a stronger embodiment of the PlayStation brand compared to the standard PS5 or the sleeker variant. However, given its high price, there might be those who would choose differently.
