As a die-hard action movie fan with over three decades of experience under my belt (and a few battle scars to prove it), I can confidently say that 2024 has been an exceptional year for us action junkies, with titles like Furiosa, Kill, Monkey Man, and Rebel Ridge setting the bar high. But if you thought those were the best of the bunch, think again! Get ready to adjust your list because The Shadow Strays is poised to take the crown as the best (if not the absolute best) action movie of 2024.

2024 is shaping up to be an exceptional year for action movies, boasting titles like “Furiosa”, “Kill”, “Monkey Man”, and “Rebel Ridge” that have captivated audiences. Yet, it appears there’s a new contender vying for the top spot – “The Shadow Strays“, an upcoming revenge epic. This highly anticipated movie is now streaming and has garnered critical acclaim, earning a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 82%. The martial arts extravaganza and intense violence are being lauded by critics, thanks to the skillful direction of Timo Tjahjanto, who brought us “The Night Comes for Us”.

Starting off with Jonathan Wilson from Ready Steady Cut, who almost perfectly rates The Shadow Strays at 4 out of 5 and applauds Tjahjanto for delivering all that he desired in an intense action-packed thriller.

Occasionally, it feels as though Timo Tjahjanto was created specifically for me, given his penchant for crafting films that resonate deeply with my preferences – a blend of high-octane action and hair-raising horror, infused with dynamic energy, graceful choreography, and shockingly brutal violence. The Shadow Strays is no exception; it’s simply brilliant.

Chris Evangelista from Slashfilm shares similar thoughts, but admittedly had some concerns about the film’s extended running time. Nevertheless, he ultimately finds it to be “an absolute blast.

“No one is doing it like Timo Tjahjanto. The Indonesian filmmaker creates movies that make you say “Hell yeah,” and his latest digital blood-drenched opus, “The Shadow Strays,” seems designed to both excite and exhaust the viewer. It’s loaded with killer, ultra-violent action scenes that just keep going, and going, and going, to the point where everything starts to get bogged down. That’s not to say the film isn’t a hell of a lot of fun — action fans will get what they want here.”

According to Alex Maidy from JoBlo, The Shadow Strays is hailed as one of the “most violent, gory, and coolest” action films this year.

One captivating action movie that stands out from this year’s releases is “The Shadow Strays”. It’s guaranteed to leave you in awe, with every scene surpassing the last, causing your jaw to drop time and again.

The accolades keep rolling in for “The Shadow Strays,” with Twitter user @FakeRobHunter lauding it as “another exceptional demonstration of action filmmaking.” They particularly note a “powerful performance by Aurora Ribero, who combines an impressive action debut with deep emotion.” Another action enthusiast, @zkleverton, agrees, stating that in a year filled with outstanding action films, this one takes the top spot for him. He describes it as a “harmonious blend of stunning violence and raw pathos.

In a positive evaluation, Barry Hertz from the Globe and Mail praised Tjahjanto for his distinctive style in martial arts actions and portrayal of on-screen violence.

The director creatively devises fresh methods for eliminating his henchmen, escalating his signature employment of the silat martial art style to an extreme degree, surpassing even the idea of excessive violence.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but sing praises for “The Shadow Stray” after experiencing its breathtaking creative flair and the relentless energy of its action sequences.

Tjahjanto excels in devising unique ways of causing harm and injury, and these scenes unfold before you rapidly and intensely.

Despite some critics finding the film overly long and negative aspects, they still appreciated the exhilarating action scenes. In fact, according to Casey Chong from Casey’s Movie Mania, is it possible to have too much of something good?

Timo Tjahjanto’s action thriller, heavily drenched in blood, delivers plenty of heart-pounding excitement. However, it’s slightly weighed down by an excessive running time.

Title character, a 17-year-old professional killer known as Codename 13, finds herself suspended due to a botched mission in Japan. During this time, she encounters Monji, an 11-year-old boy whose mother was taken by a criminal organization.
