I must be out of my mind!” My agent then advised, “You absolutely need to take part in this.” Remarkably, he had said something similar to me before, during a series called ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.

Although Good American Family might seem like a sensational tale straight from a Hollywood film, such as the 2009 horror movie Orphan, it’s important to note that Natalia Grace is indeed a genuine individual. She was adopted by an Indiana family in 2010 when she was seven years old, but their relationship ended prematurely a few years later. Natalia Grace was born on September 3, 2003, in Ukraine to Anna Volodymyrivna Gava. She was diagnosed with spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita and spent time in an orphanage before being adopted by Kristine and Michael Barnett and brought to the United States in the spring of 2010.

The couple later stated that they observed unusual characteristics in Natalia, suggesting she was mature beyond her years. They claimed she had started menstruating earlier than other children her age and possessed an advanced vocabulary for someone so young. Additionally, they mentioned difficulties understanding Ukrainian. In 2012, the Barnetts sought advice from a doctor and petitioned the Marion County court to amend Natalia’s birth records, eventually changing her birth year from 2003 to 1989.

Initially, I asserted that Natalia displayed signs of sociopathic behavior, specifically sharing concerns about her making aggressive threats towards our family and even attempting to contaminate Kristine’s coffee; however, Natalia continuously defended herself, insisting she was still a child rather than an adult, and denying the couple’s accusations. Later, they relocated Natalia to an apartment in Indiana, while Kristine, Michael, and our children ultimately decided to depart for Canada, leaving their past lives behind. In time, Cynthia and Antwon Mans observed that Natalia was struggling on her own and took her under their wing, providing support to the abandoned girl.

After being accused of neglecting a defendant, the Bartnetts found themselves in court. However, Michael was cleared of charges in 2022, and the charges against Kristine were dropped in 2023. Since then, the couple has parted ways.
