THE SHOPHOUSE Explores the Power of Place in 'DØR TO DOOR'

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for art and a soft spot for cultural exploration, I can’t help but be intrigued by the upcoming exhibition at THE SHOPHOUSE. Having traversed countless virtual worlds, I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of blending realities, much like Jinbin Chen and Yu Shuk Pui Bobby do in their work.

Just before their yearly artist residency begins, THE SHOPHOUSE is excited to present a joint exhibition featuring Jinbin Chen and Yu Shuk Pui Bobby. During this event, these talented artists will collaborate to display an assortment of unique, on-site creations inspired by the open studio phase.

Ever since its launch in 2021, I’ve been diving headfirst into the DOOR TO DOOR program – a unique journey where art serves as our passport! This exciting exchange between Hong Kong and the UK lets us artists immerse ourselves in fresh creative spaces. As we craft our work in response to these new environments, we’re really emphasizing the impact of place and space on our artistic expression.

2021’s unique “Dør to Door” program showcases the cultural and knowledge exchange taking place between Hong Kong and Oslo. Artist Chen explores a sense of liminality by portraying the divide between the perfect and the past through delicate, broken images. His art focuses on encounters and longing, depicting a radiant clash between figures.

Similar to Chen, Bobby Yu Shuk Pui’s artistic and filmmaking endeavors propose innovative body politics. Much like a science fiction narrative, the artist evokes intimacy from futuristic forms. In her recent video creations, she delves into concepts of memory and identity as they adapt and shift within diverse cultural landscapes.

The DØR TO DOOR exhibition will be on view from October 5 through 20 at THE SHOPHOUSE Hong Kong.
