The Simpsons Reveals John Cenas Surprising Role in the Season 36 Opener

As a die-hard fan of The Simpsons since its inception, I have witnessed the evolution of this brilliant and groundbreaking animated series like no other! From Bart’s mischievous antics to Homer’s hilarious blunders, the show has consistently kept me entertained for three decades.

The popular series, “The Simpsons”, commenced its 36th season with a glamorous premiere on Sunday night, September 29th, airing on Fox. The episode, known as “Bart’s Birthday”, was the first to air. Notable figures like John Cena and Conan O’Brien graced the animated special as guest stars. Tom Hanks and Danny DeVito were also part of the premiere, with DeVito reprising his role from a previous episode where he portrayed Homer’s long-lost brother, Herb. WWE legend John Cena made his first appearance on “The Simpsons” in this opener, and it has been disclosed that his character became part of the Springfield community during his stay.

After establishing his dominance in wrestling and acting, John Cena made an appearance on The Simpsons to showcase his unexpected talent for…helping deliver babies. In this episode, Cena steps into the comic book store at a crucial moment when Comic Book Guy and Kumiko go into labor. As they frantically try to cope with the situation, Cena casually walks in and unveils his double role as a licensed midwife alongside being a 16-time WWE world champion. In the animation sphere, John Cena is relatively fresh, but he’s no novice to the screen, boasting roles in shows like “Peacemaker” and “The Suicide Squad” (2021), as well as the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Conan O’Brien, a veteran from “The Simpsons”, makes his return, having previously appeared as an animated character in Season 5’s “Bart Gets Famous”. The show labeled their premiere as the “series finale”, featuring an animated version of Conan O’Brien hosting a Dolby Theatre-like event. His opening monologue commences thus:

“It’s such an honor to be with you all for the series finale of ‘The Simpsons,’” O’Brien said in his opening monologue. “I knew I was the right man for the job because I’ve hosted the last episode of three of my own shows and counting… Well, it’s true. Fox has decided to end the Simpsons. This show was such a special part of my early career, so being here means the world to me. Also. I left a sweater in the writer’s room in 1993 this is the only way they’ll let me get it back.”

Did He Say The Simpsons ‘Series Finale’?

Fans can rejoice as they discover that the Season 36 premiere of The Simpsons was not actually the series finale, despite initial confusion. Good news for fans as this much-loved comedy series is set to return on FOX’s Animation Domination block this Fall along with other returning franchises like Bob’s Burgers and Krapopolis. Specifically, Season 15 of Bob’s Burgers and Season 2 of Krapopolis are coming back, while new episodes of The Simpsons will air Sundays at 8 p.m., followed by streaming the next day.

Although Fox hasn’t confirmed Season 37 of “The Simpsons” yet, there are more projects related to the show in the pipeline. At the D23 Disney fan event on August 10th, it was revealed that four new episodes of “The Simpsons” will be produced specifically for Disney+. The streaming platform already hosts all past seasons, the 2007 movie “The Simpsons,” and a collection of animated shorts titled “The Simpsons Collection.

Disney Plus is set to debut a Halloween special titled “The Past and the Furious,” “Yellow Planet,” and a double Christmas episode called “O C’mon All Ye Faithful” on December 17th. This upcoming content has sparked discussions about the future of the series, with some speculating that the absence of a season 37 announcement could imply significant changes ahead.

However, it’s the first occasion that “The Simpsons” have created a full-length episode specifically for Disney+, raising speculation about potential changes in the show’s future on Fox.
