As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has witnessed countless action-packed films that leave audiences on the edge of their seats, I must admit that the behind-the-scenes stories often paint a starkly different picture. The adrenaline-pumping scenes we marvel at are not without their risks, as evidenced by the harrowing tale shared by Isla Fisher about her near-drowning experience on the set of “Now You See Me.”
Having followed the careers of several actors and actresses throughout my years in the entertainment industry, I can’t help but admire those who push the boundaries of safety for the sake of art. The stories of Dylan O’Brien, Daniel Craig, and the injured extras on the set of “Transformers” are chilling reminders that personal safety is sometimes compromised to capture our hearts with thrilling stunts.
Knowing what transpired behind the scenes makes Isla Fisher’s bravery all the more impressive, as she returned for not one but two sequels despite her terrifying ordeal. It’s a testament to her dedication and love for the craft that she was able to overcome such a harrowing experience and continue to bring magic to the screen.
In light of this, I can’t help but joke that perhaps the magicians in “Now You See Me” should have cast Isla Fisher as their real-life sorceress instead of just having her portray one on screen – after all, she certainly has some real-world magic up her sleeve! Be sure to catch “Now You See Me” and its sequel on Amazon, and keep an eye out for the release of “Now You See Me 3” on November 14, 2025. As they say in the business, the show must go on – even if it means taking a few risks along the way!
Working in the cinematic world, everything appears unreal. I always thought that standing behind the camera wouldn’t put my life at risk. With stunt doubles, green screens, motion capture technology, and other means to execute dangerous stunts and heart-pounding scenes safely, it seemed like a controlled environment. But alas, accidents can still occur from time to time, reminding us that nothing in this industry is ever truly foolproof. Actress Isla Fisher recently shared her terrifying experience on set, and the tale sends shivers down my spine.
In an interview with Cineatomy, actress Isla Fisher shared her experience on the set of 2013’s Now You See Me. For those who haven’t seen the movie, it’s about a group of magicians and escape artists called the Four Horsemen who undergo grandiose heists. Across the entirety of the film the various cast members are all shown to be doing dangerous stunts. In the interview, Fisher shared about a particular scene where she was trying to break out of a water trap and nearly led to her drowning.

Performing certain movie stunts can pose dangers not only for the actors but also their stand-ins, and there have been numerous instances where such stunts have resulted in accidents. For example, Dylan O’Brien from “Maze Runner” series suffered severe head injuries and was hospitalized following an accident during a stunt on set. Similarly, Daniel Craig needed surgery due to an injury he sustained while filming for “Spectre”. In another case, Paramount Pictures had to compensate three extras with $18.5 million after they were hurt while working on the set of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”.
Although thrilling action movies provide an exhilarating experience with their adrenaline-fueled sequences often sparking lively discussions upon exiting the cinema, it’s essential to acknowledge that such intense scenes may occasionally compromise actor safety. Although there are robust safety protocols in place for actors, it’s clear from instances like these that there are exceptions to the rule.
As a cinephile, I must say that delving into the behind-the-scenes events of “Now You See Me” gives it an even more chilling edge for me. Kudos to Isla Fisher, who bravely returned for two sequels, despite the past incident. Currently, you can rent both “Now You See Me” and its sequel on Amazon. The much-anticipated third installment in the trilogy, “Now You See Me 3,” is slated for release on November 14, 2025. Keep an eye on the 2025 release schedule to discover which other films are coming out that year as well.
