In the realm of cinema, I recently found myself drawn to a film titled “The Substance“, directed by Coralie Fargeat. This movie not only offered a chilling body-horror experience but also challenged the sexist norms prevalent within Hollywood, particularly in the glamorous world of show business. It came as no surprise that its two captivating stars, [Star1] and [Star2], chose to honor this groundbreaking film during their presentation at last night’s glittering Golden Globes. The Golden Globes are a dazzling event where the finest films and television productions of the previous year are celebrated. On this occasion, despite “The Substance” being nominated in multiple categories, our stars couldn’t resist using their moment on stage to reenact their roles from the movie while announcing the Best Television Male Actor award.
During their presentation at the awards ceremony, Demi Moore, playing a struggling actress in the film “The Substance“, turned to her co-star Margaret Qualley and asked, “Why are you here?” In the movie, Moore’s character Elisabeth Sparkle takes a mysterious substance that creates a younger, more successful version of herself (portrayed by Qualley). However, when the balance of the substance is disregarded, chaos ensues. When Qualley replied, “What do you mean ‘why are you here’, Demi?” Moore responded, “This is my week,” to which Qualley retorted, “But, it’s the Golden Globes, so…” Moore then delivered the famous line from the movie.
“But you have to respect the balance, right?”
‘The Substance 2’ Gets Quickly Shut Down by Director
Audience members were anticipating a performance of some sort related to “The Substance” at this year’s Golden Globes, but the event didn’t quite meet those expectations. Some spectators speculated that the show would push boundaries by introducing Monstro Elisasue, the bizarre fusion of both characters from the film’s finale. Although it might have been challenging to fulfill such a demand, we’re still delighted that the duo shared some amusing banter about the movie throughout the broadcast. Their predicament stemmed from both of them being nominated for their acting in the film. Unfortunately, Qualley didn’t take home an award, but Demi Moore did, marking her first significant award win in over three decades.
After the incredible achievement of “The Substance”, fans are eagerly yearning for a follow-up. Will Monstro Elisasue embark on a new phase in Hollywood? Or could other fading stars resort to using the substance, resulting in similar catastrophic outcomes? Regrettably, we can’t answer that question as Coralie Fargeat has firmly dismissed any whispers of a possible sequel.
Just prior to the Golden Globoresponding to a query about a possible sequel, Fargeat was unequivocal in her response. Unlike some directors who might say “If the right concept arises, we’ll see,” Fargeat made it clear that she had no interest in such a project. “No way, no way,” she stated emphatically. “The purpose of this film is to offer something new. No sequels, no prequels, no part twos or threes.” As of now, The Substance can be streamed on Mubi.
