The Union Is No. 1 On Netflix, But It's A Milestone Low For Both Mark Wahlberg And Halle Berry

As a long-time fan of both Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg, I have to admit that their latest film, “The Union,” has left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. With such an impressive body of work between them over the past decade, it’s hard not to be disappointed by the dismal 28% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Over the weekend, the Netflix movie “The Union” was released, featuring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg as a romantic-comedy action pair. This spy-action comedy follows a construction worker who reunites with his high school sweetheart, only to find himself entangled in a dangerous intelligence operation when he discovers she’s actually an undercover agent. Despite reaching the top spot on Netflix, “The Union” has been met with relatively poor reviews for its leading actors.

Right now, the Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry spy thriller titled “The Union” is the most-watched movie on Netflix. Last week, however, it was “The Emoji Movie “, which earned a 6% rating from Rotten Tomatoes, that held the top spot. Now, it’s been moved to the No. 2 position, with Kevin Hart’s “Night School” taking over at No. 3.

In contrast to reaching an all-time high on the streaming platform, the latest Netflix film featuring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg is considered a significant career lowpoint for both actors over the past ten years. As per Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has garnered a 46% critics’ score and a mere 28% rating from the audience. Critics’ consensus labels it as “tedious,” yet the film boasts two talented performers. Notably, the audience score marks a new low for both actors in over a decade.

Over the past decade, neither Halle Berry nor Mark Wahlberg has made a movie with an audience rating lower than 72%. The movie that received the least favorable response from audiences in Wahlberg’s case was 2015’s “Mojave,” which earned a 30% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Even “The Gambler” scored one percent higher, and Wahlberg’s lowest-rated film according to critics, “Me Time,” received an audience rating of 32%.

Personally speaking as a gamer, Halle Berry’s lowest-rated film among audiences before “The Union” was “Kings” with 31%. Movies like “Kidnap” (50%) and her directorial debut “Bruised” (56%) didn’t resonate well with the audience. However, there were films she starred in that audiences enjoyed, such as “Moonfall” (70%), “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” (86%), and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” (64%).

The Union Is No. 1 On Netflix, But It's A Milestone Low For Both Mark Wahlberg And Halle Berry

Although Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg didn’t find success with their joint project, “The Union”, they each have an exciting lineup of 2024 movie releases to anticipate. On October 18th, Wahlberg will show off his freshly shorn head in “Flight Risk”, playing a hitman masquerading as a pilot aiming to assassinate a passenger on his plane. He also has the crime thriller “Play Dirty” under his belt and is currently filming the comedy “Balls Up” alongside Saturday Night Live alum Molly Shannon. These upcoming films promise engaging content for audiences, offering an enjoyable viewing experience.

Actress from “Monster’s Ball” is set to star in an upcoming horror movie titled “Never Let Go.” In this film, she portrays a character battling terrifying monsters and creepy spirits. The story revolves around a family battling for survival against an evil entity. It appears that audiences can look forward to some exciting movies alongside Mark Wahlberg with these two projects.

Although it’s exciting that Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry’s latest Netflix film, “The Union,” is currently number one on the platform, its audience rating of only 28% is the lowest either actor has received in the last ten years. Given their ongoing successful careers, it seems their future projects still hold promise for captivating audiences once more. Don’t forget to catch their top-rated film, “The Union,” through your Netflix subscription!
