Aimee Lou Wood, a standout performer in ‘The White Lotus’ season three, shared that Saturday Night Live has expressed apologies following their portrayal of the British actress during last night’s episode.
In a pre-recorded skit titled “The White POTUS“, the NBC show playfully imitated Mike White’s popular HBO series, exchanging characters from its third season set in Thailand for those of President Donald Trump, his family, and cabinet members. James Austin Johnson stepped into the role originally played by Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff, while Chloe Fineman brought her unique interpretation to Parker Posey’s Victoria Ratliff character, portraying Melania Trump with Victoria’s distinctive Southern accent.
In this comedy sketch, Jon Hamm humorously imitated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. while engaging with Walter Goggins’ character Rick. The scene also featured Sarah Sherman portraying Chelsea, who donned a set of fake teeth for the performance. Despite having limited dialogue, Sherman did utter a line, “Fluoride, what’s that? Oh look, a monkey!
On Sunday, Wood addressed some online rumors regarding remarks about her appearance at HBO, by posting multiple Instagram stories. In a previous interview, she had mentioned something similar, but now she has clarified further. She also expressed her displeasure with an episode of Saturday Night Live, finding it mean and unfunny. The British actress added that she might remove this post later.
31-year-old expressed gratitude after her initial comment received agreement from many, also sharing some messages she received. “What a pity,” she stated in another post, recalling the enjoyable experience she had a few weeks prior. “Absolutely, make fun of it, that’s what the show is for, but couldn’t there have been a more intelligent, subtler, less crass approach?
In addition, Wood playfully criticized the fake British accent used by Sherman during the skit, saying, “For goodness sake, make sure to get the accent correct! I value precision, even when it’s not always pleasant,” she added with a chuckle. 😃
Approximately an hour later following her initial post, the star of “The White Lotus” shared another Instagram story that read, “I’ve received apologies from Saturday Night Live.” The actress did not specify who from the show extended the apology regarding the sketch. Representatives from “SNL” were contacted by The Hollywood Reporter for a comment.
