The Who Sets Farewell Tour — Again

The iconic rock band, The Who, has declared that they are bidding farewell. On Thursday, they announced their final North American tour, titled “The Song Is Over Tour,” which is a reference to their 1971 song. They describe this as the “grand finale” of their impressive six-decade-long career.

The “The Song Is Over” Tour commences in Sunrise, Florida on August 16th, traveling through various cities such as Philadelphia, New York, and Los Angeles, before concluding in Las Vegas on September 28th. At this point, the band has not disclosed any dates outside of North America. Ticket sales begin on May 16th, at 10 a.m., local time.

This isn’t The Who’s initial farewell tour, given that they bid adieu back in 1982. They did have a 50th anniversary tour in 2015 and performed numerous shows in 2019 as well.

In the 1960s, every aspiring musician yearned to conquer the American music charts. For The Who, this dream became a reality in 1967, forever altering our lives. As Roger Daltrey put it, “The warmth of American audiences over the years has been inspirational and reminds me of the excitement I felt when hearing the first rock records on the radio. Rock music offered us a sense of generational rebellion. To me, America has always represented greatness. The cultural differences here had a profound impact on me; this was the land of possibilities. It’s tough to bid farewell to a significant part of my life spent touring with The Who. Thank you for being there with us, and I look forward to seeing you one last time.

In Pete Townshend’s words, “Every great thing eventually concludes, and this moment is bittersweet… Today, Roger and I continue to honor the legacy of our late bandmates Keith Moon and John Entwistle, as well as our long-standing Who fans. I must admit that while the journey hasn’t always been pleasant for me, it has generally been straightforward: it was the best job I could ever have.

Recently, the band The Who experienced a temporary split with their drummer, Zak Starkey – who is Ringo Starr’s son. This separation lasted just a few days, as issues related to communication, both professional and personal, were addressed on all sides. These matters have since been resolved amicably.
