The Wind Waker HD Dream On Switch 2 Is Not Dead

Delight, fellow Zelda enthusiasts! If you found yourself saddened by the speculation that The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker port for the Wii U might be abandoned due to the GameCube version’s availability through Nintendo Switch Online (NSO), take heart! It seems the company is not ruling out offering both versions on the upcoming Switch 2 instead.

At the Kinda Funny Games Daily show on April 8th, host Tim Gettys shared that he had a conversation with Nintendo’s senior vice president of product development and publishing, Nate Bihldorff, during a Switch 2 demonstration event.

Bihldorff affirmed that highlighting Wind Waker as a key feature in the initial release of GameCube games for Switch 2 doesn’t rule out the possibility of the Wii U port eventually appearing on the platform. According to Gettys, this simply means there is still a chance for it to be included.

“I did ask if having the Wind Waker in NSO precludes it from the Switch 2 getting the actual Wii U port at some point. He was very quick to say: ‘No. All options are on the table, obviously nothing’s confirmed'”

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, fans have been asking for a return of The Wind Waker HD, but instead, Nintendo opted to release a port of Skyward Sword in 2021, a game that has mixed opinions. Even Twilight Princess hasn’t appeared on the system yet.

Of course, considering Nintendo’s standpoint, it’s understandable. After all, Skyward Sword hadn’t been upgraded in high-definition like Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were during the Wii U era. Thus, prioritizing the port of that game to the current system seemed logical.

As a fellow enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news! Regarding The Wind Waker HD, it seems we’re in a wait-and-see phase right now. Although the Swift Sail feature might be missed for making the game less laborious, remember that you’ll get to sail again once Nintendo Switch 2 hits the shelves on June 5th. As for Twilight Princess fans like myself, we’ll just have to exercise patience a little longer until, fingers crossed, it finds its way onto NSO. Let’s keep our spirits high and hope for the best!
