The Witcher Season 4 Leaked Photos Show Laurence Fishburne Alongside Liam Hemsworth

As a seasoned movie buff with a soft spot for fantastical tales and a deep appreciation for adaptations that do justice to their source material, I find myself both intrigued and cautiously optimistic about the upcoming seasons of Netflix’s The Witcher. The recent leaked photos have certainly piqued my interest, offering glimpses into the live-action interpretations of much-loved characters like Geralt’s companion, Regis, played by the legendary Laurence Fishburne.

Photographs leaked from The Witcher Season 4 offer fans a more detailed glimpse at one of the franchise’s most cherished characters, marking the first live-action portrayal of a beloved figure. Drawing inspiration from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, Seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher face the challenging task of adapting the final three novels in this much-loved series (the last two being the longest). Season 4 will immerse us deeply into “Baptism of Fire,” and may include plot points from “The Tower of the Swallow,” while Season 5 will tackle “The Lady of the Lake.” Despite criticisms leveled at the series, particularly since Henry Cavill’s departure, these two fan-favorite characters could potentially salvage Netflix’s somewhat rocky adaptation.

According to The Daily Mail’s latest release, these images offer an exclusive look at the ongoing filming of the show in Wales. Many of the photographs center around Liam Hemsworth’s character, Geralt of Rivia. In one image, he can be seen standing beside Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy, who plays Regis in the fourth season. Regis is a Higher Vampire, one of the most powerful species on The Continent. He’s joining Geralt and his group in their quest to rescue Ciri (Freya Allen) from Nilfgaard. Unlike other vampires, Regis has given up human blood due to years of addiction, opting instead to drink from animals. Regis was first introduced in ‘Baptism of Fire’, a beloved character among book readers. His popularity skyrocketed after his appearance in the ‘Blood and Wine’ DLC of ‘The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’.

Besides Regis, the leaked images also introduce viewers to Zoltan Chivay, portrayed by Danny Woodburn. Similar to Regis, Zoltan is another loyal companion of the White Wolf who’s traveling with a band of Dwarven and Gnomish refugees. Just like Regis, Zoltan was well-loved among book readers but gained widespread recognition after appearing in all three installments of The Witcher video games.

Can Netflix’s The Witcher Be Saved?

Has the future of The Witcher’s remaining two seasons look promising, given its initial success on the streaming platform, its strong position on weekly viewing charts for several weeks, and modest critical acclaim in Season 1, despite some criticisms from fans regarding changes to the source material? However, with a significant shift in fan sentiment towards Seasons 2 and 3, and the departure of Henry Cavill (currently beloved by many online), there are concerns about the series’ future. Therefore, one might wonder if The Witcher can regain its former popularity for its final seasons.

The leaked set photos cannot speak to the quality of Season 4’s scripts, or how faithful to the books they will be, but the optimistic portion of the fan base are excited about seeing two beloved characters finally get the live-action treatment. Ignoring the bigoted side of the fandom, securing Laurence Fishburne to play Regis was a genius move on Netflix’s part, as the legendary actor has a lot he can bring to the morally complex role. However, the series needs to get over the narrative hump of condensing the three longest books in the franchise into two shorter seasons.

The Witcher Season 4 is expected to debut on
in 2025.
