The Witcher: Sirens Of The Deep Animated Film Gets Netflix Release Date & Clip

As a seasoned aficionado of all things fantastical and epic, I must say that the upcoming animated movie, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, has piqued my interest to no end. With Doug Cockle voicing the iconic Geralt and Anya Chalotra reprising her role as Yennefer, it feels like a homecoming for the dedicated fans of the video game series. The fact that it is directed by Kang Hei Chui, who brought us The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, only adds to my anticipation.

In a sneak peek from the upcoming animated movie “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep,” Geralt is seen with a fresh animation style and a new voice. This version of Geralt will be voiced by Doug Cockle, who played Geralt in all three “Witcher” video games produced by CDProjektRed. The animated film will premiere exclusively on Netflix on February 11, 2025. Meanwhile, in the live-action “Witcher-verse,” Liam Hemsworth is set to explore the continent, tracking down Ciri (Freya Allen) and slaying monsters for payment.

In addition to Cockle and Batey, Sirens of the Deep features Anya Chaltora once more as Yennefer of Vengerberg. This production is directed by Kang Hei Chui, who previously worked on The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, with a script penned by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, showrunner for The Witcher, serves as a producer, while Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher novels, acts as creative consultant.

What Is The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep About?

In contrast to “The Witcher” series adapting Sapkowski’s more substantial novels, the film “Sirens of the Deep” expands one of his short stories from the book “The Sword of Destiny, titled “A Little Sacrifice“. This movie follows Geralt and Jaskier, as the bard is hired for a wedding gig. However, it’s not just any ordinary wedding; Geralt is hired by a local prince who’s smitten with a mermaid that doesn’t reciprocate his feelings. The short story delves into human-merfolk relationships and explores the strained bond between Geralt and Yennefer. Given the brevity of the original story, the filmmaker Kang Hei Chui has significantly expanded the narrative and its themes to fit a feature-length movie duration.

In terms of the real-world version of “The Witcher” storyline, filming is actively happening for Season 4. Following Henry Cavill’s departure from the show after the third season (likely due to creative disagreements), Liam Hemsworth now takes on the role, sporting a white wig during the last two seasons, thereby marking the end of Netflix’s involvement in The Continent. Additionally, the proposed “The Rats” spin-off series has been canceled by Netflix.
