In a significant move, the globally recognized motorcycle manufacturer, Royal Enfield, which holds the title as the world’s oldest motorcycle brand, has stepped into the electric vehicle (EV) domain by unveiling its inaugural electric motorbike: the Flying Flea.
The historical motorcycle manufacturer from India, initially established in England in 1901 as the Indian motorcycle company, has partnered with tech titan Qualcomm to develop a specialized version of their “Car-to-Cloud Platform” operating system specifically for motorcycles. This collaboration between Royal Enfield and Qualcomm is set to introduce an innovative experience entirely tailored to two-wheelers. Additionally, the alliance will mark the introduction of a novel chip, the Snapdragon QWM2290, making its first appearance in the Flying Flea model.
At a roundtable discussion during CES 2025, Mario Alvisi from Royal Enfield shared with TopMob that their collaboration is like a harmonious blend of traditional design and advanced technology. He further expressed his intention to make Royal Enfield’s electric bikes an investment that grows in value over time. Alvisi believes this ambition can be achieved more efficiently due to the over-the-air updates enabled by the technology, which will enable the motorcycle brand to continually update and enhance the bike from a distance.
The latest model of the bike comes equipped with a round touch screen display situated on the handlebars for an intuitive user experience. This screen connects to your phone using 4G, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted connection through secure multi-function interaction. Your smartphone can also serve as both the key and ignition for the bike, and it offers five pre-set ride modes that you can personalize. Notably, this bike’s operating system is Android-based but will work seamlessly with both iOS and Android devices.
At present, there’s limited data about the bike; details such as its motor power (equivalent to horsepower) and pricing are yet to be disclosed. Keep an eye out for future announcements as we’ll share more information as it becomes available.
