The Wrapp – Pleasing Pets, Continental Conquest and Leaving the House

Hey there, folks! As a lifelong gamer who’s seen more consoles than I care to remember (and some I wish I could forget), I find myself drawn this weekend to a game that harks back to my childhood – or rather, my teenage years. It’s Pokemon Go, and let me tell you, it’s been a real grind these past few days.

Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.

Over the coming weekend, I’ll be sharing my gaming plans alongside other members from the Pocket Gamer team. We hope this gives you a peek into our off-hours activities, which can sometimes be quite peculiar and fascinating. Who knows, you might discover a fresh game that catches your fancy!

It appears she’s been out of the loop, as she’s only recently become aware of the Ranma 1/2 Remake on Netflix and plans to spend her weekend marathon-watching one of her beloved childhood anime shows from back in the day.

Pokemon Go is killing me this week.

Last week, you may recall, I didn’t engage with Pokemon Go over the weekend because of the approach towards Go Wild weekend. However, this week, I’ve been hosting Pokemon Go events each night, braving the chilly weather in Britain.

The event called “Go Wild” happens from Saturday through Sunday, running from 10am until 6:15pm each day, meaning I’ll be immersed in it entirely throughout those times. It promises to be quite challenging, and I sincerely hope we can gather enough participants to tackle the Dynamax Toxtricity, as it appears that a substantial number is required.

I won’t have time for anything else for the next few days since I’ll be busy with events until Wednesday, making it a 10-day streak, and it’s extremely cold. So, please check back on me next week to see if I’m still around.

This week, I’m planning to take a break from playing mobile games, but surprisingly, I’ve been drawn back into Total War: Rome Remastered, a game you might remember is developed by Feral Interactive, who were also responsible for the mobile version of the original Rome: Total War.

Although I’m somewhat dismayed by the slightly modified perspective on Total War: Empire that seems to be more popular now (does anyone else recall when this was seen as the series’ fatal blow?), I must admit that I appreciate the gameplay, setting, and mechanics. Therefore, I’m hoping that Feral’s latest attempt to adapt Total War for mobile devices, specifically their port of Empire, could pave the way for a remastered version. This remaster could potentially iron out the flaws, allowing us to experience this 17th-century warfare simulation as Creative Assembly originally intended.

Over the weekend, we got our second dusting of snow this year, which has me excited! I’m looking forward to heading up to that cozy mountain village and savoring a steaming mug of hot cocoa, all while surrounded by snowy landscapes. This time, it seems like my gaming console will have to wait!

Last week’s Wrapp was a miss for me as I took some time off. However, if you’re curious about what I did instead, I immersed myself in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, as I seldom keep up with console gaming these days. On my phone, I kept on playing Pokemon TCG Pocket, but my enthusiasm is starting to dwindle due to fewer pack openings. To add to that, I constructed a powerful Mewtwo and Gardevoir deck, which makes it feel like I’ve wrapped up the battling since it’s so potent. The catch? Other Mewtwo and Gardevoir decks present the main challenge.

Moving forward, this weekly post focuses on the future, and I’m excited to explore that with Bart Bonte’s latest creation, Mister Antonio, coming up this weekend. If you’re not familiar with Bonte, he’s known for a series of color-themed puzzle games that remind one of The Impossible Quiz from the Flash era. Unlike his previous works, Mister Antonio is more about catering to the demands of the title character, instead of solving abstract puzzles. Given my fondness for cats, this change in format makes it even more appealing.

It’s been a week of new games and try-outs in the mobile world as I tried to make sure that everything is running well. It’s making me think that maybe my gear could use a few upgrades, but then I have to wonder: Why do so many mobile games not have graphics settings? What is the cut-off for games to have some kind of graphical or system setting so that it can run on older devices? I’m curious if mobile games might be the most technically demanding.

As I mull that over, I also plan to dive into a few other games. One of them is Capybara, GO!, which has just been released in my area. Additionally, I’ll be trying out some games with a Darkest Dungeon feel and a monster-growing farm game. Maybe this assortment will aid me in discovering the top mobile game? Fingers crossed it does.

It appears I’ll participate in both the upcoming playtests for Destiny: Rising and Infinity Nikki within the next few hours. That sounds like it will be quite exciting!

As I navigate through this gaming adventure, I find myself multitasking between immersing myself in the world of Pokémon TCG: Pocket Edition and keeping up with the exciting Pokémon Go events Jupiter brought up earlier.

Instead of joining the ten-day evening event streak, I won’t be able to participate on Sunday because I have a full-day Pinball tournament. In other words, I’ll be busy playing pinball all day, which means constantly pressing the flippers and acting like I know what I’m doing.
