As a staff writer at PocketGamer, I find myself immersed in the vibrant world of mobile gaming every day. This week, I’m eagerly anticipating diving deeper into Teamfight Tactics, with its upcoming Arcane-themed set. I can almost taste the victory as I strive to reach Grandmaster rank before the new set arrives – it’s like a never-ending game of whack-a-mole, but with strategy instead of hammers!
Hey there, welcome to our latest edition of The Wrapp.
Here’s your weekend sneak peek into the gaming choices of our Pocket Gamer team! We hope this glimpse into our world will inspire some intrigue about what we do when we’re not sharing the hottest news and tips with you. Who knows, you might even discover a game that tickles your fancy. Enjoy!

This Sunday, I won’t hide the fact: I’ll be participating in the Mankey Community Day in Pokemon Go! Niantic has encouraged ambassadors to organize a food bank drive, so that’s exactly what we’re doing – something we usually do monthly. It promises to be thrilling to experience this during a community day instead of Raid Hour as usual.
At present, I’ve been thoroughly engrossed in the Pokémon TCG Pocket version. Right now, I’m battling against Lapras, and let me tell you, it’s quite challenging. The waiting periods in the game can be pretty lengthy.
This weekend, I’ll still be immersed in Neopets: Faerie Fragments, having advanced to level 246 – quite a challenge so far! For the past two days, I’ve been making repeated attempts to progress, but I’ve hit a roadblock. It feels like I’m playing the same game over and over again, which can be quite daunting. So, expect more of the same effort from me this weekend as I keep trying to conquer level 246!

During my last physical therapy session, I was informed that it takes 6 to 8 weeks for my injured muscles to heal. This implies that I won’t be able to continue my Zenless Zone Zero playthrough this year. Instead, I’ll likely spend more time on the Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, a game I’ve found myself quite fascinated with lately amidst my Neko Atsume and capybara activities.
At the moment, I’ve gathered a consistent collection of decks for each element, and I’ve been striving to earn the latest Genetic Apex Emblem Event badges because I enjoy collecting shiny new items. Over the weekend, I’m aiming to secure more victories or, at the very least, send more friendship requests to players I face in battle so I can examine their decks using Wonder Pick later on. Hooray! There’s always room for more cards.

At the moment, Dave is abroad attending the Pocket Gamer Connects Jordan event, which means he’ll probably be quite swamped and may not have time to play many games. However, if he did decide to purchase Balatro as he mentioned last week, he might find a moment to play it.

Because of recent happenings, I’m seeking out new methods to keep myself occupied, and delving deeper into discovering top-notch mobile games serves that purpose well. Initially, it was a hunt for an excellent horror game exclusive to mobiles, but so far, the search hasn’t been fruitful (at least based on my taste in horror). During our podcast discussion, we pondered whether the best games would have endings or not, but I’ve stumbled upon numerous compact mobile games that provided a sense of fulfillment instead.
When considering this game, I need to take into account its accessibility: How convenient is it for me to play? If I decide to go out for a coffee, can I quickly grab the game and play a bit or does it require me to transition fully into gaming mode? Is it suitable for playing in short bursts while waiting, or do I need to be fully relaxed like on a break? Let’s revisit Dadish trilogy and explore other games that are similar. Perhaps the perfect mobile game revolves around dads.

This week’s update is relatively uneventful as I’ve been immersed in my Pokémon TCG Pocket game, delighting in expanding my collection. The thrill I get from unwrapping an art rare or EX card keeps me coming back for more. Nevertheless, there are a couple of battle-related issues that need addressing. A few tweaks to the quality of life could make these issues vanish. For instance, it seems unnecessary to flip a coin to paralyze a Pokémon when the attack reduces its HP to zero. This additional step only prolongs the gameplay and detracts from the overall enjoyment.
Apart from playing on mobile, I plan to embark on The Iron Rig DLC for Dredge next. I enjoyed the base game this year immensely and its impact lingered even after earning the Platinum trophy, eventually ranking among my top indie games ever. With such high regards for it, you can well imagine my enthusiasm when the mobile adaptation was announced. While there’s no lack of reasons to reel in more eldritch horrors, having an excuse never hurts.

Over this coming weekend, I’ve got quite the busy schedule gaming-wise! If you’re into Teamfight Tactics like me, you’ll be excited about the fresh new Arcane-themed set on the horizon – inspired by everyone’s favorite Netflix series from Riot Games. Before it drops, I’m setting myself an ambitious goal: climbing all the way up to Grandmaster rank. As you might expect, getting there will take some serious dedication and hours of gameplay!
Besides immersing myself in TFT gaming, I intend to grab some food and squeeze in a couple of hours of sleep. Man, there are times when you feel like working tirelessly on a game (for me, advancing my rank) and you reminisce about the hours you could have spent daily catching up. By the following week’s update, we’ll have moved onto a new set. I suppose I’ll need some luck, I guess?

Genetic Apex Emblem Event 1.
Besides this, the main intention is to travel through the nation to catch up with some friends during their housewarming event and perhaps drop by the town’s Christmas Market. Afterward, we’ll head back down for the Mankey Community Day that Jupiter mentioned. Anything beyond that is an added advantage.
After experiencing a crash following the third obstacle which left me disoriented, my pace on the Balatro track has decreased for now. However, I’m looking forward to finding some quiet moments to revisit my Checkered Deck and try again.
